I have used this lesson to prepare A-Level Literature students to read Blake’s Songs of Innocence & Experience, but this could easily be a stand alone lesson for high level Y11 students and above.

This is a lesson that I taught a year 7 class, but as it is greatly differentiated, it offers scaffolding and challenge to all students.

This is the second lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. This lesson focuses on the peasant’s revolt of 1381 and the reasons for the discontent in the country. The students will read poetry from and about the time in preparation for learning about the Romantic movement. This is the third lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. This lesson focuses on the Milton and his impact - specifically the controversy of Paradise Lost. The students will Miltonic excerpts as well as quotation from other poets who Milton influenced in preparation for responding to an unseen Romantic poem next lesson. This lesson is the second in a 3 lesson mini scheme of work on the context of Shakespearean England. However, this could easily be a stand alone lesson. This session focuses on the social classes of Elizabethan England, and where they would be positioned in the theatre. The students will complete a creative writing task from the perspective of a groundling, and then self-review against a success criteria.

This lesson, suitable for any KS3 class, contains activities to do with International day, including a questionnaire, a mind-mapping and a creative task.

In this lesson, students can use the template to make their own board game based on a fantasy book of their choice. I give them two examples: Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings, but students can choose any book! Lesson comes with resources.

Here, the students will follow clues around the ‘middle earth’ (the school) to lead them to the final treasure. This could work for any school that has a playground, a hall and a library!
