This is a one-page Power point slide (editable) which can be set as a project-based assessment on the causes of slavery. Students are given clear criteria (beginning, developing, expected, and mastery) and a set task with a list of key words which can help them. The slide also has a section to show students how long they have to work on this assessed piece of work. There are two different question cards and the battleships are all named after significant ships (eg Hitler’s personal yacht, the Grille). Students take it in turns to guess a square and if they answer the quesiton correctly they are awarded a hit or miss. Needs to be printed back to back. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do.

Please read below to find details about this one.” Dan This activity works really well as a starter to introduce the topic or indeed as a plenary to test student knowledge and understanding. Its very simple. Just print out and laminate the cards and place them upside down. Students have to choose any two and read them aloud. Once they spot a colour-coordinated pair (a question and an answer) they score one point. My students really love the simple activity and it really boosts their precision in historical subject knowledge. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Students divide themselves into three teams - research, design, and construction. Then using only scotch tape, scissors, and a tablet/computer or textbook, they need to design their own castle using the labels provided. Students complete a questionnaire about Roman inventions and how recently they have used them. From this they achieve a score (out of 66) and are asked to stand up when their score bracket is read aloud. A fun way to introduce the concept of why the Romans are so significant.

This resource is titled “7 Great Ideas for World Book Week/Day.” 7 great ideas for promoting reading and literacy in secondary schools during World Book Week and World Book Day in April. I’ve made the Power Point so it can be reused in assembly or Form Time without too much tweaking although one of the activities (guess the teacher) needs personalizing. Have a great Book Week! Please read below to find details about this one.” Dan This resource is titled “World Children’s Day – Assembly.” The 63-slide PowerPoint assembly begins with starter anagrams with explanations. Get four students to come to the front with a whiteboard and marker and make it a game. Each is a child who has changed the world such as Malala, Mozart, Ruby Bridges etc. A script is provided so students can read out key information about World Children’s Day. This is followed by a short video from UNICEF. There is then a teacher led interactive true or false quiz featuring 10 questions about the day. The assembly invites students to become active changers and features graduated criteria which are revisited at the end. The assembly concludes with a talk from Audrey Hepburn inviting them to share their thoughts (this can be with post it notes or using the Padlet website). It is a lesson which is designed for 11-18 year old students. I hope your students get as much out of this lesson as mine always do. This resource was created for students in high school settings and is written in UK English.
