Have your students celebrate national drum month and national Native American heritage month during the month of November by constructing an interactive Native American drum and performing rhythmic beats on it. The drum is broadly considered to be the first musical instrument used by humans. For the Native Americans the drumming represents the heartbeat of the earth herself. Indigenous people of North America continue to use drums for dances, ceremonies, games, sacred practices, celebrations and spiritual festivals. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
