Students will be able to recognize the factors needed to grow plants by constructing a flipbook umbrella with an April rain storm scene and the result in the May scene: the sunlight nourishing the flowers that bloom in May. The student will depict themselves dressed in a traditional serape poncho and sombrero that they will design using paper, pom-poms, strings and other various materials as the hands of their self-portrait hold functional mini maracas that make noise when they are shaken with the Mexican flag colors of green, white and red inside of each maraca. They will also learn how to say and write some Spanish words associated with this celebration.
