Three homeworks and a set of extended questions on the topics of
Expansions with the Binomial Theorem
Using Partial Fractions
Complex Numbers, operations, polynomials, Argand diagrams and De Moivres Theorem
All provided with comprehensive solutions
A series of examples and full solutions on the following topics
- Volume of a Prism (cuboids, cylinders and triangular prisms)
- Surface Area of a Prism (cuboids, cylinders and other prisms)
This is a series of worksheets testing a range of algebra skills. This is the rough order of increasing difficulty:
Simplify and Brackets
- Simplify 2t + 5t
- Simplify 2(x+3) – 4
Substitution
- If a = 3 and b = 2 find 3a – b
Inequalities
- Find the set of dice rolls where x > 3
- Find two consecutive numbers that add up to eleven
Full solutions included.
Questions on the volume and surface area of a cuboid, cylinder, prism. Includes changing units between cubic centimetres and litres.
Includes one worksheet with answers and a follow-up worksheet too.
Edit: added summary sheet and another worksheet
Practice question on topics that pupils might come across when sitting extra maths tests for admission to Cambridge, Oxford, or some other universities.
The topics covered are:
Worksheet 1 - Trapezium Rule, Fixed Point Iterations
Worksheet 2 - Equations, Proportion, Probaility, Riddles
Worksheet 3 - Graphs, Logarithms
Worksheet 4 - Inequalities, Necessary and Sufficient, Proof, Logic
Worksheet 5 - Sine and Cosine Rule, Trig Identities
All with full solutions.
(See my other resource for all the STEP Statisitc questions)
A set of 20 questions in a loop where pupils have to convert to and from Scientific Notation.
Print out all 20 in A4 and put them up around the classroom (or outdoors). Give pupils a letter A-T to start on then challenge them to complete the chain of letters by matching up numbers in normal and scientific form.
Shed Loads of Practice (SLOP) is about pupils solving a huge number of easy questions quickly to gain fluency.
This is an Excel workbook that generates questions on the following topics. Some are basic numeracy some National 5 / GCSE or Higher Maths level.
Negative and Positive Numbers
Odd and Even Numbers
Combining like terms
Expanding brackets
Percentages finding the multiplier
Trig standard values
Scale Factor
Indices
Print it out and give pupils just a few minutes to fill them all in.
A Powerpoint (or PDF) of algebra problems that involve ages. These are hard enough that they need the equations to be written out in full. Some need simultaneous equations to solve.
Solutions given.
A set of worksheets building up to an investigation about the time it takes for an object to drop that can be done in the classroom to practice the skills learned.
The sections are:
- Basic Skills (factorising, simplifying fractions, solving equations)
- Questions (rearranging linear formulas, quadratic formulas, and more difficult formulas too)
- Investigation (how long it takes a ball to drop, using a formula and testing it)
All provided with full solutions
A series of two part problems in the style of exam questions.
Part (a) of each question is a proof using the trig identities.
Part (b) then uses that proof to either solve a trig equation, find an integral, or differentiate to find the equation of a tangent.
Answers given at the end.
These two activities extend from 3 by 3 to 4 by 4 magic squares. Pupils design an individual magic square then search for groups of four numbes that add up to 34 (there are lots).
Good practice with simple addition and subtraction strengthening number bonds, then for more advanced pupils using algebra to get a more general solution
Edit: Added a bank of more 4 by 4 magic squares that pupils can use to find more groups of 34
Two Power Point slides of lesson starters for Distance Speed Time.
The first involves reading a timetable, converting the time from hours and minutes to hours, then finding a speed (and for advanced pupils thinking about why the speed is so slow).
The second will take longer and involves converting m/s to km/h, then an extended question about a boat journey which involves a few calculations then drawing a distance-time graph.
Solutions included on the Power Points.
his is 12 sets of questions covering a range of topics. They can be used in class, as revision or as homework. Full solutions included.
The topics covered are:

• Question Set 2: Statistics and Numeracy practice
• Question Set 3: Statistics, Time and Big Numbers
• Question Set 4: Statistics, Negatives, Co-ordinates & Scales

A write-on worksheet with 18 short questions revising exact values of trigonometry,
Most questions simple e.g. sin(60) and also includes angles above 90 degrees, radians and a few questions on inverse trig.
Solutions at the end.
A Power Point to (start to) answer the question of why we have 60 minutes in an hour. Wouldn't it be much easier if there were 100?
Includes a few simple questions for pupils on finding fractions of 60.
