Resources produced by an English Literature and Language teacher of eleven years from North West England. All resources have been produced by myself. These resources include revision tasks and engaging activities for both Key Stage 3 and GCSE classes. After prominently teaching and marking the AQA exam board most of my resources comply with this curriculum. Poetic language in song lyrics

Students use an example from 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' to explore how poetic language is used in songs. Students have three areas to explore: theme and ideas; language devices and context. Could be used with any song and students can have a choice beforehand. (Uses Katy Perry's 'Roar' as a starter activity to discuss metaphors and similes).

The Jeremy Goole show

Students take on roles to perform their own version of The Jeremy Kyle show influenced by the events in An Inspector Calls. Every family member is included with key information about them, Jeremy Goole is the host, and the other class members make up the audiences who are split into different social groups. The family members are to introduce themselves and explain their link to Eva, the audience members then pose questions to each family member. Jeremy Goole (this could be the teacher) controls proceedings, there is a framework to follow. Have fun deciding ‘who dunnit’…it can get quite exciting! Could be good to be used on an open evening/showcase as well as in class as an alternative to revising key characters.

Includes speaking and listening presentation task around news bulletin of events within the novel. Adapted from several different schemes from a variety of sources.

Project (group) task usually used at the end of term. Students must design their own theme park, using ideas from research tasks and class discussion to inform their ideas. They produce a map, one key ride design, address a letter of complaint, write a point of view poem about their theme park and deliver a presentation to the group. There are also various extension tasks within the lessons (safety leaflets etc.) Could tie in well with homework too. 'Theme Park Project worksheet document is a workbook which could be used to store ideas and notes down any changes. Includes speaking and listening reflection. Lessons can be changed and order is not necessarily chronological.

Students redrafted a piece of their own Gothic writing short story/ghost story and turned their work into a book. Can be used as end of term/topic project or homework task. Includes advice and how to set out their portfolio of work and include some non-fiction writing about themselves. Used with low ability originally but could be altered for more able students.

Works alongside classroom study as a detailed resource to dip into alongside study of full novel. Can be used as revision guide. Includes reading and writing tasks using PEELECMT (point, evidence, explain, language, empathy, multiple interpretation, theme) structure. Writing tasks also included to consolidate knowledge of novella and enhance Language writing skills for multiple purposes (including persuasive and informative writing). Good to dip into during study and includes every chapter fully summarised. Extensive social and historical context information.

Lessons used with a weaker ability Skills class. Based around school poetry, students analyse language use in a 'Dream School' poem. Look at connotations of words and phrases, which then moves into a short write up task. Moves into Roald Dahl's poem from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory about television. Students can then use what they have read from the two poem to fuel their own ideas. Easily adaptable.
