One hour, fully resourced lesson which introduces the different traditional types of Islamic clothing for both men and women before exploring why some items provoke controversy. Students will take part in designing a range of clothing for an Islamic fashion show, that needs to please both a religiously conservative and liberal audience. Students will explore the concept of social justice, its link to human rights and why it’s needed, before examining recent campaigns and the progress being made by the social justice movement. They will also explore objections to what some call ‘social justice warriors’ and whether social justice is backed up by religious ideas, by analysing quotes - the lesson has been created for RE, but would be useful as a Citizenship / interesting Drop Down Day session too. A number of religions and religious quotes will be examined throughout the lesson, with the most detailed focus on Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
