This is a course of fun, easy to follow lessons which educate, inform and inspire young people to affect change in a world where plastic pollution is at a critical level. We are in a time when people, globally, should celebrate and honour our planet, whose land and sea connects us all. Working together, we can and will protect our shared Earth. Each well structured 60 minute lesson brings to life key elements in an engaging and experiential ‘hands-on’ way to encourage learning and understanding. The workshops, and accompanying factsheets, are designed to lead the students through a process of learning to understand how damaging waste plastic is and where it comes from, so as to inspire them with the motivation to do something about the problem in their daily lives. AWF Flower Pot Design Project

(0)
The flower pot design project aims to teach students about different cultures, conservation, climate change, design and global citizenship. Schools will receive terracotta plant pots via the AWF made by villagers living in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Students will design their own terracotta plant pot based on different cultural pot designs from around the world. Students will have to research the different cultural designs individually and adapt the research into their own designs. Students can also sell their designs afterwards (see AWF's fair trade and entrepreneurship program).

AWF's Tree Planting Project

(1)
Deforestation around the world is occurring at a massive scale especially in Sri Lanka. The most dramatic impact is the loss of habitats and ecosystems for millions of species. The lesson plans use interactive learning to teach students about the importance of ecosystems, plant biology, climate change, carbon offsetting, global citizenship and the carbon cycle. Students will choose a tree to plant from the list provided. For every tree planted in a UK school, a tree will be planted in Sri Lanka through the Atlantic Whale Foundation. The ‘Root Network’ links the two projects together.

The lesson is designed to provide an introduction to how fair trade works and its benefits on a global scale. Through the case study of the AWF’s True Fair programme we show pupils how truly fair trade can provide for whole communities and can bring education, a better standard of living and effective conservation to some of the poorest parts of the world. It also exposes the children to the ideas of entrepreneurship and allows them to put their ideas into practice through coordinating a sale of True Fair products.
