Complete lesson on Frequency and Pitch, designed for the new Activate Scheme but can be used for another syllabus’ as well. Includes various tasks, calculations and discussions. All answers are provided on the slides so students can self/peer assess. This lesson works great if you have an oscilloscope so students can link frequency to pitch. It also includes a link to a youtube video for a ‘hearing test’ which students love to carry out to see how high a frequency they can hear to. There is a differentiated task on frequencies that animals can hear with low ability students using data to answer questions and high ability students presenting the data in their own graph. Differentiated questions and an extension task moving into echoes and sound for higher ability students. Some great opportunities for discussion around what sound can travel through and why, linking to particle diagrams.
