A range of group work activities with an English/Literacy focus themed around the TV programme: The Apprentice. Learners work in groups to complete challenges over the course of a week, then meet in the board room to present their final product and discuss how well they worked together. Teams can be changed for each challenge as necessary. Firing is purely optional!!

A power point and accompanying booklet aimed at developing writing for a range of non-fiction purposes including information, explanation, instruction, recount, persuasion and argument. Activities include reading examples and identifying features of the different purposes, planning own writing with a range of tasks to choose from, independent writing, peer assessment and improvement all with a football theme. Booklet was created using Microsoft Publisher but, following some feedback, I have also adapted it into a Word document for anyone without Publisher.

A booklet with a range of reading activities based on aspects of historical and social contexts of Macbeth. Activities develop reading skills while providing contextual information including James I, witchcraft and the Gunpowder Plot. At the end of the booklet is a reading assessment in the style of the new GCSE exams (WJEC).

An A5 sized booklet for easy use with planners with three homework tasks based on a Year 7 transition unit in which learners invented a time machine and travelled back in time to see how language and literature developed through the years. Tasks are project-based and include research, creative making and written tasks. Booklet also contains key words for the unit and space for learners to record any new vocabulary they learn.

A complete lesson pack developing skimming and scanning skills at KS3 using texts about World Record breakers. Pack contains engaging activities such as a 'Where's Wally?' starter and a skimming and scanning relay race, full lesson plan and power point, all resources and a new mnemonic for remembering what to look out for when scanning a text. This lesson was devised as an observation for an interview and, guess what? I got the job!

A scheme of work developed as part of the cross-curricular Forgotten Soldiers project looking at individuals from different cultures and religions who fought for the Allies during WW1 and 2. Two units of work are included: one looks at WW1 poetry as part of a creative writing task on the theme of 'Boots'; the other focuses on key individuals aiming to build awareness of the contributions of people from other ethnic groups towards the war effort.

A group work and creative writing lesson based on the idea of investigating the paranormal activities reported at Lorraine Castle (The Red Room by H.G. Wells). Using the Mantle of the Expert, learners play the parts of paranormal investigators and work in teams to explore and report back on the different areas of the castle. This builds towards a creative writing piece where each individual is parted from their team by a complication and they retell the story of what happens next. This was developed and used as a very successful lesson observation. Pack includes lesson plan, power point and all resources. Lesson can be further supplemented by the addition of props from each area of the castle - I can't supply those though!

A resource of information about different historical events. Learners work in groups to summarise the key events then plan and write a creative piece based on how the world would be if that historical event had ended differently.

A range of resources supporting the study of Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman including comprehension tasks, studying how tension is built and preparing for an assessment essay: "Explore the ways in which opposites are presented in Noughts and Crosses through the characters of Sephy and Callum?".

A lesson exploring how word choice can affect the interpretation of a text. Ideal as an introduction to the novel, analysis of its title and prediction exercise.

Two power points aimed at developing writing to argue on the topic of "Girls Are Better Than Boys", leading to the writing and presenting of an argumentative speech on the subject.

A complete lesson in which learners work in groups to investigate one of a selection of "unsellable" products using De Bono's Thinking Hats. They then work as a team to use persuasive techniques to write and present an advert for their product. This has worked very well for a lesson observation with KS4 but is easily adapted for KS3. Grade criteria included is for WJEC but, again, can be adapted to include any exam board. Lesson plan, power point and all resources are included.

A fully adaptable action plan aimed at preparing Year 11 for their GCSE exams. Using the theme of a military operation briefing, there is space to provide details of previous assessments, group targets and individual targets as well as space for dates of mock and external exams. A useful way of focusing Y11s on what they need to do in order to succeed. Originally devised as a resource for GCSE English, but could be adapted for any subject or any year group. Resource includes a Publisher and a Powerpoint version with both a partially completed example and a completely blank one for you to personalise. I've also included a quick teachers' notes section explaining what each section refers to.
