Enlighten the magical adventure story of Kensuke’s Kingdom with this four lesson diary writing unit.
Previously used in Year 5, this unit is easily adaptable across Key Stage 2.
Each lesson comes with a detailed lesson plan with a starter, main input, main activity and plenary. There is also a PowerPoint with questions for the first 3 chapters of the story.
Children will explicitly learn about using adverbials, conjunctions, subordinate clauses, relative clauses, main clauses, different sentence types (simple, compound, complex), speech (direct and reported).

This fantastic phonics assessment system has been created by experienced KS1 specialists to make baseline and following assessments simple and easy to communicate with other staff.
This assessment starts at Phase 2 and tests through to Phase 6. Teachers just need to point at each sound and word and get children to read each one. If a child gets it right, it can be checked off.
Previously, I have created one of these booklets for each child and placed in a folder for TAs to ‘pick up and go’ as interventions or early morning work.
This allows teachers to immediately show progression for pupil progress interviews and can then be passed on to the next teacher to see what gaps children have.
