This is a 15 slide PowerPoint that covers BTec National Engineering (A-Level equivalent) on the topic of Lifting Machines which includes The Inclined Plane, Pulleys, Screw Jacks and Scissor Mechanisms.
This is the eighth and final PowerPoint in this section which covers each of these main lifting mechanisms and includes worked example calculations for each example.
This PowerPoint lesson on Magnets covers the basics on drawing magnetic fields around bar magnets, both on their own and when attracting and repelling each other. There is also a PDF worksheet with three magnet drawings for the pupils to complete.
This is the first (of 8) lessons in this section entitled “Magnetism and Electromagnetism” which is available as a bundle in our shop.
This PowerPoint lesson on Generators shows how a rotating coil within a magnetic field can produce a sinusoidal output voltage (potential difference) in a circuit. Oscilloscope readings for an AC suply are looked at in detail so that students can calculate the peak voltage and time period from a diagram. Output wave forms are considered and examples are shown on how these change when the variables of the rotating coil are changed. Finally the engineering systems in a power station generator are covered.
This is the seventh (of 8) lessons in this section entitled “Magnetism and Electromagnetism” which is available as a bundle in our shop.
This PowerPoint lesson on Stellar Evolution covers the development of a star through its entire life. This powerpoint includes the iGCSE details linking surface temperature to the colour of star and the ultimate ending paths of stars depending on their mass. A poster / flow chart activity idea is also included.
This is the third (of 6) lessons in this section entitled “Astrophysics” which is available as a bundle in our shop.
This includes a PowerPoint and detailed lesson plan that includes:
Recap of current in series
Recap of potential difference in series
Experiment investigating resistance in series
Homework idea and differentiation ideas are included in the step-by-step lesson.
This is the fifth lesson in the Electricity unit of work (P2) and would cover about an hour to 90 minutes of teaching including writing up and analysing the results of the experiments.
This PowerPoint lesson on Orbits and Orbital Motion covers the mathematics of circular motion (at iGCSE physics level) and applies this to the orbits of the planets, moons and satellites. Various types of satellite orbits are also considered including geostationary orbits.
This is the second (of 6) lessons in this section entitled “Astrophysics” which is available as a bundle in our shop
This lesson covers the Evidence of the Big Bang through inlcluding the calculation of recessional speeds due to the Doppler Effect and an explanation of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). There is a worksheet of questions and answers included in this lesson.
This is the sixth and final lesson in this section entitled “Astrophysics” which is available as a bundle in our shop.
This PowerPoint lesson on The Motor Effect covers the calculations of the motor force using the formula F=BIL, the use of the Left-hand rule for showing the direction of the motor force on a current carrying wire, and the detailed interaction of magnetic fields between a wire and permanent magnets. There is also a PDF with two examples of charged particles travelling into a magnetic field, for students to complete, that include the answers.
This is the fourth (of 8) lessons in this section entitled “Magnetism and Electromagnetism” which is available as a bundle in our shop.
This is a 8 slide PowerPoint that covers BTec National Engineering (A-Level equivalent) on the topic of Immersed Bodies. This covers the calculations of buoyancy for fully and partially submerged objects. This builds on Archimedes’ principle with a mathematical understanding of buoyancy.
This is the third PowerPoint in this section (Fluid dynamics)
v1.2 - Worksheet added with answers (2nd Sept 2021)
This is a lesson and PowerPoint revising and summarizing the Particle Model of Matter. This is the eighth lesson in the Particle Model unit of work (P3).
The lesson quickly recaps lessons 1 - 7 from this unit (which are available on this site and as a bundle) and covers the theories of solids, liquids and gases; the particle diagrams, density, specific heat capacity, specific latent heat and a qualitative assessment of the gas law.
iGCSE - Refraction of light and refractive index
This lesson covers the refraction of light and the calculation of refractive index when passing from air into transparent materials. This lesson also demonstrates the experiment that can be performed, step-by-step with animation. There are also two examples of light entering and exiting other shapes (prism and edge of a square) which can cause pupils issues in exams.
iGCSE - Total Internal Reflection
This lesson covers the refraction of light and the calculation of refractive index as applied to the phenomenon of total internal reflection. This lesson also demonstrates the experiment that can be performed, step-by-step with animation.
This is lesson 7.2 Acceleration from the latest syllabus and linked to the latest Oxford book (2015)
Included here is a PowerPoint of this lesson and lesson plan complete with point by point teaching, homework recommendations and curriculum link; everything that you need to teach this lesson.
