An Internet treasure hunt/end of year activity for students. Makes an easy instant lesson in an emergency or for end of year activities.

This is a simple instant lesson (requires booking of a computer room or student laptop access). A great purposeful activity at the end of the school year or instant lesson on short notice. Students research their answers with the reward of free time once completed.

Empathy task based around the Federation of Australia with a related research task (could be homework or a formative formal assessment task). Aimed at Year 9 NSW Syllabus "Australia 1901 to 1914" but adaptable to the new curriculum.

Related marking rubric also attached. This could be used as an a formal assessment task or exam or as a revision aid.

Worksheet activities relating to events surrounding the Cold War K19 Russian Submarine incident 1961. It can be used in conjunction with the movie "K19 The Widowmaker". An extension option also looks at other Cold War era events. Useful as an end of term activity for students who have learned about the Cold War. Includes historical concepts such as perspectives and interpretation, cause and effect and empathy. A nice extra discussion point at the end for capable students is to debate whether or not this movie is actually sympathetic toward Russian perspective or is in fact much more biased toward the American perspective (consider in view of the points on the sheet).

Based on the Board of Studies key word definitions, these are posters for classroom displays to explain the meaning of key instructional words for communication tasks (written and spoken). Suited to ALL subject areas (especially HSIE and English) for Years 7-12. Designed to enhance literacy and writing skills as well as spoken communication skills.

Tips and rules for students to understand what century a year belongs to, understandng BC/BCE and AD/CE time and calculating the age of an object along with related practice questions. While aimed at Year 7, it is important foundational information for all students of History. Provided in both PDF and Word format (PDF so that everything is fixed in place to avoid the issue of images moving around + Word to allow those who might use the resource to make adjustments to suit their own classes and needs). This resource can be used as a Smartboard tutorial and activity or as worksheets.

Study of the site of Akrotiri on the ancient island of Thera (modern-day Santorini)is one of the "Site Study" options in Yr 11. Attached are a range of resources including programs, syllabus information and tutorials and activities. A fascinating topic due to the island's cataclysmic destruction by volcano, which makes it an excellent foundation for the Yr 12 core "Cities of Vesuvius". Links also to "Atlantis" myth. Also fascinating because of Thera's contact and probable links with the Minoans and Egypt. Lots of ethical issues too because of the nature of 'restoration' of the site.

Part of the Historical Period option "New Kingdom Egypt to the Death of Thutmose IV". A timeline activity for the main information for foundation of the 18th Dynasty and the founding of the New Kingdom Period. Works as a complement to Antiquity 2 textbook but can work on its own or another textbook because of the word box. This timeline summaries many pages of the textbook and also provides modelling to students on how to summarise to create manageable study notes.

A revision summary tool for Year 11 Ancient History topic 1a- History, Archaeology & Science. All required content and skills from the syllabus are listed in table format for students to use to revise and summarise work and add relevant source information. Focus questions for writing practice are also included. Use of this tool will thoroughly prepare students for examinations.

Attached are some hippy badge images that can be cut out and handed to students with a pin to wear in class (along with a crepe paper 'headband' if you wish). Use these to create a novel & fun atmosphere when teaching about hippy culture. There's lots of useful clips on Youtube to accompany the instruction. Relevant music can also be played to add to the atmosphere. This has been a very engaging lesson every time I have used this idea.
