KS5 relationships - Proverb challenge (starter)
Students are divided into teams; the teacher and/or one or more students will be the judge(s). The challenge consists in paraphrasing, explaining and providing supporting examples for the proverbs in the table (either projected on the screen or blown up on an A3). Fluency and intelligibility of student output are more important than grammatical accuracy.

Students are divided into teams.Teacher picks a word from the power point and the students, equipped with mini-boards are given two minutes to match the word with the suitable definition (on the word document). Very challenging, suitable for a group of talented linguists.

Food puzzle starter: KS3 French
Students are divided into teams and given a mini-board per team. The teacher calls out a case (e.g. 45) and the students, under timed conditions, must make as many words containing the letter cluster in that case as possible (note: one word made up of three clusters = three points). I designed the puzzle in such a way that in several cases one can make up as many as three words containing a given cluster.

KS4/5 - Metalinguistic challenge (starter/plenary)
Students, working in teams and equipped with mini boards need to spot the antonyms and answer (on the mini-boards) the metalinguistic questions. One point for each pair of antonyms spotted and as many bonus points as the stars in each case if the answers to the questions are 100% correct. The teams take turns in calling out the cases. The winning team is the one who scores the most points or completes the first column in the table.
