This makes a nice little 8 page book which summarises mitosis for GCSE. Students should complete the sheet first before folding. Students should fold and cut along the dotted line Follow the instructions in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21qi9ZcQVto

This scheme of work is designed to prepare students for the new science GCSE courses (first exams 2018). It will bridge the gap between key stages 3 and 4 by introducing some of the fundamental concepts in the biology course. The emphasis is on developing numeracy, literacy and practical skills through engaging activities rather than focusing on content which they will learn at GCSE. There are eight lessons, although each one includes a practical activity and can be taught over two lessons. The topics are: 1. Size and scale 2. Surface area and volume 3. Diffusion 4. Respiration 5. Food energy 6. Nervous system 8. Natural Selection The resources include - a scheme of work outlining each lesson and practical activity - PowerPoint presentations for each lesson - editable worksheets to support student learning - technician requirements

Edexcel SNAB Unit 1 Examiners report activity

(2)
This activity uses the Edexcel examiners report to help develop exam technique. In pairs, students should be given a copy of the June 2015 exam paper and markscheme, and the activity sheets. They should go through the sample answers, and decide how many marks to award each one. The ppt should be used to show students what the examiners decided. Examiners' tips and commentary are also highlighted

OCR B4 Developing ideas about photosynthesis

(1)
A useful starter for B4 created for an interview lesson (hence the AfL) - how scientists' ideas about photosynthesis have developed. Get three students to read the pieces about each scientist and the class fill in their sheets after each one.

Command word exam technique practice

This is aimed at edexcel A level biology but may be relevant to other boards/subjects. I've taken common command words from exams and have attempted to explain their meaning through this activity.

This is suitable for end-of-year revision for weaker students. Instructions: BEFORE LESSON 1. Print out the posters on A3 2. Print out the worksheets 1 per pupil 3. Print out the cards, cut out and put them on desks along with the corresponding poster DURING LESSON 1. Give out worksheets, students move to different posters/cards 2. They arrange the cards on the poster. When it has been checked, they copy this onto their own worksheets.

This is an ICT based investigation using Multimedia Science School (http://mss.lgfl.org.uk/BL612/ls.html) - ignore the comment below, you don't need a username. Students record results on the Word document and can do data analysis on the Excel document.

A level Biology Unit 1 Longer answer practice

I've taken each of the longer (5/6 mark) questions from aqa papers and put them into this PowerPoint. Students practice each question under timed conditions (timer on each slide - click on the box to activate. Give 5 mins for each question). Then use the mark scheme to mark/feedback.

I couldn't find a decent summary anywhere so I made this worksheet. I don&'t think students need to know too many details for AQA Unit 1 so hopefully this will be useful. Please let me know if I&';ve missed anything or made any mistakes.
