Some initial questions about the article. I get the students to write answers, although I'll probably make a mark scheme and upload it when I get a chance. A useful starter for B4 created for an interview lesson (hence the AfL) - how scientists' ideas about photosynthesis have developed. Get three students to read the pieces about each scientist and the class fill in their sheets after each one.

This investigation is based around Breaking Bad. Students complete a practical making magnesium sulphate (I've called it 'white') and calculate the percentage yield. The group with the highest yield wins but watch out for cheating!

This is aimed at edexcel A level biology but may be relevant to other boards/subjects. I've taken common command words from exams and have attempted to explain their meaning through this activity.

I adapted this from another TES resource - I added some blanks for students to fill in and edited to reflect our C1a unit.

Instead of drawing hundreds of electrons, this resource presents the electron arrangements for the first 20 elements which students first identify, then arrange onto their periodic table. Much neater, and less chance of mistakes. Print out SINGLE SIDED so students can cut out the cards on page 1 and arrange them into the periodic table on page 2.

This is suitable for end-of-year revision for weaker students. Instructions: BEFORE LESSON 1. Print out the posters on A3 2. Print out the worksheets 1 per pupil 3. Print out the cards, cut out and put them on desks along with the corresponding poster DURING LESSON 1. Give out worksheets, students move to different posters/cards 2. They arrange the cards on the poster. When it has been checked, they copy this onto their own worksheets.

Similar to the one I created for unit 1, this is taken from the spec and should be useful for revision. I printed it as an A4 booklet and I added a blank revision timetable on the final page.

This is an ICT based investigation using Multimedia Science School (http://mss.lgfl.org.uk/BL612/ls.html) - ignore the comment below, you don't need a username. Students record results on the Word document and can do data analysis on the Excel document.

A websheet to support student research into metal extraction. Upload this to your VLE and students complete and print for their notes. They need to press ctrl and click the links to open the websites.

I've taken each of the longer (5/6 mark) questions from aqa papers and put them into this PowerPoint. Students practice each question under timed conditions (timer on each slide - click on the box to activate. Give 5 mins for each question). Then use the mark scheme to mark/feedback.

Couldn't find one of these so knocked it up from the specification.

I couldn't find a decent summary anywhere so I made this worksheet. I don&'t think students need to know too many details for AQA Unit 1 so hopefully this will be useful. Please let me know if I&';ve missed anything or made any mistakes.
