History lesson on the decline of the Egyptian Empire and the rise of the Greek Empire. Students will discover the reason for the decline in Egyptian influence, look at the geography of both Egypt and Greece and discuss how this close link could impact on each Empire. Students will then investigate Greece’s most famous leader, Alexander the Great. Students will complete a comprehension task on the life of Alexander the Great.

History lesson on Ancient Egyptian health. Students will begin by discussing health in the UK and the importance of the NHS. Students will then be presented with an ‘information explosion’ with limited instructions and lots of information on each table. Students will then complete a ‘progress’ and ‘held back’. Students are to then complete an answer to the question ‘How effective was Egyptian medicine?’ using the differentiated help sheets.

Lesson on Egyptian society. Students start by discussing democracy in the UK. Students are then assigned a role within the Egyptian social pyramid (11 roles in all) and they are to go around the classroom and interact with other students as their character. Students will then complete the worksheet highlighting the responsibilities of each role, the benefits and the drawbacks. Students will then debate how Ancient Egypt might have been if democracy had been introduced but will argue from the point of their character.

History lesson on how the Ancient Greeks governed themselves. Students are to recap on previous knowledge on how the Ancient Egyptians were governed before looking at Ancient Greek methods. Students will then look at the similarities and differences between todays governance and that of 2500 years ago. Students are then assigned a role within Greek society and it will be their job to share this information with classmates as they go around the room to investigate the other 7 roles. Worksheet is provided for students to complete during the last task.

A KS3 History lesson on evacuation during the Second World War. This lesson can be broken into two one-hour lessons. The first looks at the reasons for evacuation looking at first hand accounts of the process. The second looks at the experiences during evacuation, again looking at sources. Questions are asked throughout the lesson to check for understanding and develop source analysis.

A KS3 History lesson looking at Hitler’s ambition of invading Britain and Britain’s attempts to resist this via the RAF. Students will look at ‘the Few’ who defended Britain’s skies and the aircraft used on both sides. Questions will be presented to the students throughout the lesson alongside sources.

A KS3 History lesson on the Dunkirk evacuation. Students will assess whether the event was a success or a failure using sources and their own historical skills. Questions are presented throughout the lesson.

A KS3 History/RE lesson based on the United Nations and it’s aims and purpose. This lesson is ideally delivered as a carousel activity with students discovering the different branches of the UN and who it aims to help.

A KS3 History lesson centred on Irish independence. Students will look at Ireland as part of Britain before the First World War before looking at Nationalist and Unionist divisions and the Easter Rising. Students will look at sources and answer questions throughout the lesson.

A KS4 AQA History lesson based on the events of the Battle of Verdun. Students will work independently to complete the accompanying worksheet using the information sheets provided. Students will then use the NOP technique (Nature, Origin, Purpose) to pick apart of the source provided.

KS3 History lesson which usually takes 2 hours to complete. Students are first introduced to Winston Churchill’s early life and political career during the First and Second World Wars. Students then go on to see Churchill’s impact post-war and the legacy that he left behind using source analysis to assist in this. Questions evaluating Churchill’s significance are present within the lesson.

A KS3 History lesson on the origins of trench warfare. This lesson usually stretches over 2 hours and looks at the reason behind ‘digging in’ and the features of a trench. Students will read first hand accounts of life in the trenches and the combat seen by soldiers there.

A KS3 History lesson on the Dresden bombings; assessing if they were necessary or a potential war crime. This lesson will take two hours as students use information and sources to form a judgement to the issue above. There are some sensitive images so review before teaching.

A KS4 AQA History lesson on the aims and policies of Kaiser Wilhelm II, leader of Germany before the First World War. The lesson is an independent study with information sheets accompanying a worksheet that needs to be printed and handed to the students to complete. The lesson concludes with an exam question.

A KS4 AQA History lesson on the problems in the Balkans before the First World War. Students will look at the crumbling Ottoman Empire, the Balkan Crisis and resulting Balkan Wars. This lesson will take 2 hours to complete with sources to analyze and exam questions to answer.

A KS3 History lesson about the causes of the sinking of the Titanic. Students are given evidence about the Titanic and those involved in the maiden voyage and disaster. Students are then tasked with coming to their own conclusion on why the Titanic sank and who/what is to blame.

A KS3 History lesson introducing life at the turn of the 20th century. Students look at Britain’s place in the world as well as technological advances in transport, communication and entertainment. Students are presented with sources to analyse and questions to answer.

A lengthy KS3 History lesson introducing the Second World War. This lesson is taught almost like a timeline from start to finish of the war. I teach this over 2-3 lessons to introduce the topic and then go into more detail with certain events in lessons after this. There are lots of discussion points and questions for students to answer.

A KS3 History lesson introducing the suffrage movement and women’s campaign for the vote. Students will look at sources which highlight the position of women within society and their actions as they try to force change. Questions and sources are present throughout the lesson to help challenge students.

A KS3 History lesson looking at the contributions of soliders from across the British Empire. Students will investigate the motivation for joining the war effort and the problems faced for these soldiers. Slide 6 has sensitive language, please review before teaching.
