A lesson based on a text from Lernpunkt Deutsch 3 (p72) for year 10 on the topic of health. Activities all lettered (to explain the order): Starter of opinion vocabulary, then pre-teaching of topic-specific vocabulary, gapfill, multiple choice, etc etc etc. Then returning to the opinion phrases for a final plenary summarizing other's opinions.
A lesson to teach/revise structures with the conditional perfect. Ideal for a small class, each member of the class becomes an investigator of one particular structure, and then in a mini-carousel, students explain their findings to each other and write notes on the summary sheet. If there is an odd number (as in my class), you can use the slot with the student to do some specific oral work or other challenging activity. Extension activity on reverse is on the future perfect. Very challenging - not for the faint-hearted!
Slightly tongue-in-cheek lesson about writing a report on your teacher. Pupils read my report and fill in the appropriate endings, then pick out the best grammatical structures, and finally use what they've learnt to write their own reports on a teacher (suitable for a guessing game on which teacher they&'re talking about). Fun for my top-set year 10s.
I came across this buzzfeed.fr article and was inspired to create this fun starter!

I used this with a mixed Year 10 class in the final lesson before beginning a controlled assessment on a sporting event for charity. This activity introduces key phrases and structures, and also subtly gives some ideas as to how to have fun with your writing.
When I taught this topic (Module 3 from Studio 1) I used a sentence builder at some point in each lesson to demonstrate the relevant language point. For revision I put them all together to remind the students of their learning. Great for a variety of games: Guess my sentence, translation into French, hands-down questioning (say an English sentence, turn the projector off after 3 seconds, and pupils give an answer from memory), the beep game ('beep' one element out - student guesses).
Used as a follow-up to Levelled assessment, this lesson guides students towards reflecting on their achievements and improving. There are two similar versions of this lesson - the normal one (Levels 6-7) and the HIGHER one (Levels 7-8), with full resources for both. You could even mix them together and do a lesson that covers Levels 6-8!
A lesson introducing the concept of verb conjugation to Year 7. They still remember conjugating 'spinnen&'! Plan is also included, as is a follow-up lesson.
Preparation materials for speaking/writing assessments in Year 9 French. Used in combination with Expo 3 Rouge textbooks, and given out along with my 'En bonne santé' sentence-builders sheet.
Series of lessons guiding pupils through Expo 3 Rouge Module 3, covering:
1. parts of the body and 'avoir mal a' construction
2. other symptoms using 'etre' and 'avoir'
3. reflexive verbs in the past tense
4. negative sandwiches
5. phrases that take infinitives
I made this for my top set, but it was also useful for middle sets!
Used to review tenses after a writing exam, this grid should help my bright year 8s to sort out their tenses (and extend them towards negative sentences). Help sheet on second page with references to Expo 2 rouge textbook.
'Pimp My Sentence' has been rebranded as '7Up' - this worksheet will help students to reach Level 7 in French writing/speaking - use in combination with my Pimp My Sentence mixed tense PowerPoint!
1) Help sheet for year 9 French, corresponds to Expo 3 Rouge Module 3. Guides students towards creating basic sentences, then improving them.
2) An activity, created for a cover lesson, based on this collection of sentence-builders.
Task for year 8 students to consolidate knowledge of present and past tense, with an extension of future tense. Use the levels ladder as an easy, consistent way of giving specific targets! There is a blank sheet for higher sets, and a help sheet and scaffolded version for lower sets.
Reading activity (based on a Listening from Expo 3 Rouge) with comprehension activities; a grid to visually show the different tenses (useful for revision); a multiple-choice quiz on verb conjugations; a re-translation exercise to develop the skill of adapting; a final activity to build Level 7 sentences.
Resources for a lesson with a lower set on protecting the environment and phrases with 'zu&'.
Lots of room for fun (with phrases such as &';I refuse to take the bus!') and extension by coordinating sentences (&'...but I promise to protect the environment!&';).
Includes Diamond 9 activity (with support for discussing in German), guess my sentence activity, battleships, and Os and Xs. (Another successful interview lesson!)
Comprehensive sheet to prepare students for speaking/writing assessment, including Languages Ladder to show students specifically what they need to do/how to improve. The ladder is particularly useful for quickly setting very specific targets.
