P2 Calculations, Acceleration, GPE, Force, Hooks Law, kinetic energy etc

(1)
These 3 resources each form a large circular shape, ideal for group work. There is also space for students to show their calculations, corrections etc. This is a very useful for peer to peer revision/learning in a low stress environment. The answers are provided. This was made using Formulator Tarsia and the original files have been included if you need to amend.

Physics "Solve Me" Puzzles, acceleration, momentum, kinetic energy

These activities work best in pairs and I've found that they are very good at building resilience and independence. The students are given the problems and answers, but are asked to show their working out and meta cognitive processes - teaching them how to problem solve and apply their ideas.

Electromagnetic Spectrum Text and Worksheet - wavelength, frequency and properties of EM Waves

(0)
Activity Length: 40 minutes Suitable for GCSE students of all abilities. This is a 3 part resource. The first is a comic book style text that introduces EM waves as being transverse and as waves of different lengths and frequency (there is an explanation as to what these terms mean). The second part is a user friendly worksheet, again in a comic book style, where students can use textbooks, video or internet to discover the uses, dangers, advantages, disadvantages, frequency and wavelengths of the spectrum. My students enjoy using the comic-book style textbooks, in particular my reluctant readers and dyslexic students, however, there should always be an alternative source information around, like a text book, to ensure that they are exposed to text of all types. The third is a powerpoint file of the comic book if you should wish to present it rather than printing it. The activity will challenge the higher abilities as they will be expected to apply their knowledge in a compare and contrast activity, while also being expected to produce work that shows a deeper understanding. Keywords: transverse wave, electromagnetic spectrum, light, communication,

Energy and Efficiency Revision Puzzle

(1)
Activity time:30 -40 minutes In this kinasthetic activity students have to match the problems with the calculations and questions with answers. The final product is a large square. I usually get students to pair up in groups of similar ability and give them text books or their exercise books to help them. Excellent revision activity, but not suitable for very low ability students.

Power Calculations , Differentiated, Card Sort x 15

Activity Time: 45mins GCSE Power 15 Questions and Answers most of which focus on calculations, converting units and re-arranging equations. Each question is differentiated by difficulty (most difficult have 4 smileys while easiest have only 1 smiley face). The activity focuses on P = E/t and P = I * V - to further differentiate you could supply students with model answers. I usually give different abilities different numbers of Smiley's to collect, so a lower ability student would have 6 while a higher would have many more. There are 3 files in this resource, a colour version, black and white version and the answer key.

X-Rays, ELectromagnetic spectrum - Differentiated Activity Wheel

Suitable for GCSE Students. The activity wheel has 8 activities linked to X-rays, their uses, dangers and properties. The wheel starts off with easier activities and become increasingly more difficult, suitable for E-grade to A*. Both a colour and black and white version are included. How to Use: 1) Teacher can allocate specific tasks to students 2) Teacher can allocate all the tasks to a mixed ability group and have them produce a joint presentation/poster 3) Students choose their own activities.

Isotopes and Atoms differentated lesson

Fully differentiated lesson on Atoms and Isotopes. Includes lesson plan, keywords, workbook and starter sheet. This lesson was judged Good with Outstanding features in a 2013 lesson observation and I've used it ever since. The A grade activity looks at the link between alchemy and isotopes and challenges students to apply their knowledge in an interesting and unusual scenario.

Specific heat capacity , deep learning, literacy, differentiated

Written for the new 2016 specification on the particle model. The activity consists of two worksheets, one for foundation and one for higher. The student is provided with visual prompts and then asked to write down facts relating to SHC. Activity is best done in pairs and as a way to demonstrate learning. This type of activity fosters deep learning at all levels and should be used alongside reference material like text books or glossaries to gain maximum benefit.

Isotopes, Alpha, Beta, Gamma Radiation - Correct the mistakes Activity (Higher)

(0)
Suitable for higher tier GCSE Students Students read through the text on alpha, beta and gamma radiation and correct any mistakes. This is a good deep-learning activity forcing them to think and create their own cognitive links. I often use this in conjunction with a piece of text suitable for the level of the group, dictionaries and text books. It generates a lot of discussion so I would suggest pairing by similar ability. Answers are provided.

National Grid Card Sort ideal for SEN or low ability groups

This activity reinforces some of the key terminology and parts and functions of the National Grid that students will have encountered during this lesson. I have designed this so that it can be accessible to those with literacy difficulties by putting in plain student speak where possible. I have also included the answers so that students can peer or self assess. Some of the terminology includes: step-up transformer, current, substation, pylon

Transverse and Longitudinal Waves Checkerboard Challenge - Differentiated

(0)
Suitable for all GCSE groups and higher KS3 Activity is designed to foster challenge in a fun and engaging way. The checkerboard is made up of a number of activities, each with a point value depending on difficulty. Students then choose the tasks they would like to do, however, teachers can control the level of challenge by assigning "total score targets" depending on ability. The activities force independent enquiry so it is always handy to have textbooks and dictionaries to hand if possible. Every time I have used this activity I am surprised by the enthusiasm and quality of work produced.
