In this is unit of 5 - 6 lesson series pupils are immersed in the context of 1912, with events such as the Titanic symbolising the fragmented class structure, and that of the writer, 1946, in which the same rigid class system is clinging to its former glory following the chaos of the second world war. Using kinaesthetic activities and a series of iconic video clips pupils will grasp the core elements of the contexts underpinning An Inspector Calls. Additionally, exploration of key concepts such as such as capitalism and socialism, and their relevance with regards to the writer's purpose and messages is also covered in depth. An array of 'self-help' resources that pupils can grab themselves, or that can be handed to them in response to their questions, which will provide adequate scaffolding or extension to enable them to help themselves make maximum progress. A range of word clouds for vocabulary extension, support mats/posters and extension activity cards, all of which can be printed in A3 or A4, laminated and placed on tables, in a draw you can quickly access or displayed around the classroom. Personally, I use the two latter options. They really do save me a lot of time and energy and are incredibly resourceful and accessible in all of the classes that I teach.
