There is two different version for this recap lesson with very different tasks. Choose which one would best fit your class A lesson that recaps the methods William used to keep control, culminating in students answering a GCSE style question about which method was the most important to William’s reign over England. A writing frame is included to help with less able students. Students look at the problems William faced and try and work out which method would have solved it. There are help sheets to prompt students.

Instructions Students take it in turns to shoot down key words. Students must define key words if they are correct they can click the bulls-eyes and it will be shot at. Or Students can be timed and see how many can be shot down within a minute. The high scorers name and score can be included in the white boxes.

Students press the spin button and what ever it lands on students have to write down as much as they can remember about that topic. Words can be changed as class learns more. Every time the button is pressed it will land on a different word.

Split the class into groups. Students must pick the key words that they think are the hardest as these are worth most marks. Students take turns going through the key words the team with the highest score wins.

This lesson approaches the Titanic from a different angle looking at what the titanic reveals about the Edwardian period. Students look at a range of sources from pictures, menus, etc to back up points about the Edwardian. There is a worksheet, GCSE styled question, with sentence starters and a model answer. Students also have a literacy focus where they need to correct mistakes to the model answer. The homework tasks involve students getting given a passenger to investigate. Students loved this as each student got a unique passenger with their own boarding pass which they fed back their findings to in the next lesson.

Students learn about the introduction of the feudal system and how it gave William control. There is a role play task. Followed by a scaffolded GCSe styled question. With a writing frame for those than need it, as well as challenge tasks to stretch the top end.

A lesson aimed at students learning about the main long term causes of the First World War, looking at Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism and Nationalism. Students build up their knowledge and then practice a GCSE describe question about each. There are sentence starters and key words for each question for the lower ability and challenge tasks for each activity to stretch your top end.

A lesson that looks at the Motte and Bailey castle and looking at how it gave William control. There is a literacy focus getting students to write using connectives as well as practicing GCSE questions. There are sentence starters for the less able and challenge tasks to stretch the top end.

A murder mystery lesson. This is aimed at getting students to work out facts and use evidence to work out the truth. The lesson was super engaging for both my top and bottom sets. Can be taught two ways either place the information around the rooms and students walk around and try and find it/ or place all the evidence into a pack (brown envelope, can place stickers on the envelope, students loved the little touches made it feel like a real CSI investigation). Students then work as a group trying to find out the story, this allows a competition element. The lesson ends with a write up of an account a writing frame is provided.

This lesson looks at the impact the railway had in Britain. Students complete, recap starter, a colour coding and categorizing task, a source discussion as well as a GCSE styled question. The lesson includes challenge tasks to stretch the top end and sentence starters to aid students.

This lesson forms part of a SOW on the Industrial Revolution for year 8. The lesson looks at inventions developed during the industrial revolution and gets students to explain their important. It looks at the work of Harold Gillies in Reconstructive surgery, as well as Blood Transfusions, Hospital Treatment and injured limbs treatment. A lesson that looks at the work of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Students compare the work of the two nurses, students look at their efforts during the Crimean war and their impact. Lesson includes a source question with a worksheet to build up to answering the question. Then there is a choice of essay question

A lesson that looks at Elizabeth and her potential suitors. Students try and find the best match for Elizabeth, looking at their pros and cons, and whether they solve any of the problems that she faced. There is a GCSE style question, with sentence starters and challenge tasks to stretch the top end.

There is over a 150 medicine key words, events, people, cards based on the history of medicine GCSE topic. These can printed and laminated. When printing choose to print 8 pages on one page as they they are a better size for tasks. These can then be used for a multitude of tasks, such as timing them into putting them into a time periods. I did this every so often after a couple of times, the time it took was halved. They can also be used for class game of pictionary where they have to choose one at random and describe or draw it for the class to guess. Placing them on the tables and then with whiteboard pens making links between different people and events or group them into different factors such as war, communication government etc. AFL task where the table has to sort them into those they can explain and the ones that they struggle with.

This lessons forms a scheme of work for AQA Health and the People. The lesson looks at how the church impacted medicine and whether it hindered or helped medical development. Students complete a task as well as a source question and essay question. The lesson includes challenge tasks and writing frames for questions.
