This lesson introduces students to key themes in Medieval Europe. Students work in groups investigating warfare, religion, towns, medicine and law and order. There is a GCSE styled question, with sentence starter for less able, challenge tasks to stretch the top end. There is a model answer as well where students can either assess and use to edit their work. The America topic has been divided up into each decade with a timeline of key events and key statistics for each, as well as a separate one for Women’s liberation and Civil Rights. I use these for recap tasks where students complete what they know and use these to DIRT and improve their answer. I have also printed of a couple and laminated and key changed together for students to take home for revision purposes.

The First lesson in a SOW intended for a three year GCSE looking at the AQA: America 1920 -1973, students through the main task investigate what America was like at the beginning of the 20th century, what problems they faced, how the government worked, what parts of America believed what and did what. The idea of this lesson is to introduce them to some key terms that will come up and give them a basic understanding. These two lessons form part of a SOW for the AQA topic America 1920 - 73 Opportunity and inequality. Two lessons that look at immigration in the USA, the first lesson gets students to investigate the causes of immigration, what it looked like, who immigrated to the US and how the government responded to it. The second lesson looks at the experiences of the immigrants in America. Both lessons have a GCSE exam question, one essay styled and the other interpretation. Students look at beliefs and treatments for diseases in the middle ages, as well as medical practitioners and how they observed medicine.
