A set of 12 pictures/symbols with a choice of three phrases below each, about campsite facilities and making a booking. Would also work as a translation task once pupils have chosen the correct phrase. Could be extended by asking pupils to suggest another alternative for each set of phrases, or to make up their own quiz about hotel/youth hostel accommodation. A set of 15 sentences in French with a word missing in each. Pupils choose the correct word from the list below to fill each gap. Sentences describe hotel accommodation in the imperfect tense. Could then be used as a translation exercise into English, or pupils could adapt or extend the sentences. Two copies fit on a side of A4, making it cheaper to photocopy. Answers provided on page 2 of the document.

A set of 7 English sentences to be translated into French, either giving opinions of TV programmes or saying what time and day they are on. Range of length and difficulty, although all are in present tense. Answers provided on page 2. Could be extended by asking pupils to adapt the sentences to give alternative details, or to add more of their own information to each sentence.

A list of 16 items of vocab in French. Pupils decide whether each is a type of TV programme or film (or both). Instructions in English ask for pupils to write answers in lists. Could equally be used as a speaking task: one pupil says item of vocab, another says whether it's TV or film. Easy to extend into a task where pupils give opinions. Good revision task.

Two paragraphs, each describing a different film character, with a set of questions below in English. Pupils can easily guess who the two characters are. Number of points for each answer is shown in brackets. Answers are provided on page 2. Save on photocopying: two copies of the worksheet fit on one page of A4. Extend this task by asking pupils to write their own character description and setting questions for another pupil to answer.

A grid to support pair work asking about meal times: what people eat & drink, when, where and who with. Each box has space to write each pupil's own information for each meal, then they interview their peers and add their information too. There are 2 short texts below the grid, to be used as an example with the whole class before beginning. There is also a set of grids of suggested vocab to answer each element (what/when/where/who).

A set of sentences in present tense for pupils to sort into school day or weekend. Each daily routine sentence is written with a time it would happen on a school day, and again with a time it could happen on a weekend. Sentences are listed together in pairs, but you could make it harder by jumbling them, or printing out and chopping up. Pupils could write their own sentences about a school day or the weekend, using these as prompts.

A set of sentence starters for pupils to complete, to give information about their own daily routine in the perfect tense. Some parts of the English are provided for each sentence starter, as prompts.

There are 4 pages with this resource: page 1 is a set of sentences in the perfect tense which are used throughout the resource. You could use them as a matching activity (you say the English, pupils find the French) or a translation task. Page 2 is a gap-fill with the past participles missing: the sentences run in order from morning to bedtime, pupils choose the correct past participle from the box beneath. Page 3 has the answers to the gap-fill, but can also be used as an ordering task (chop up or shuffle first!). Page 4 has guidance for pupils to prepare their own sentences about their daily routine in the past tense.

Leads in to further work such as pupils creating their own sets of information plus sentences, or that of other famous people.

A list of facilities available in a youth hostel: pictures/symbols with the English and space to put the French. The French vocab is provided on a separate sheet for you to use either as answers, or for pupils to cut out and stick on the symbols list. Beware they are in the same order at the moment, so I suggest you ask pupils to cut the French vocab out, then play with it in pairs (guess the English/look up in a dictionary/work with you as a class together), then ask them to stick or copy the French onto the symbols sheet. There are 4 sets of the French vocab on the second page, to save on photocopying.
