KS3 French: Free Time/Leisure/Hobbies
Various tasks, activities and worksheets covering different elements of this theme. They include clothes, TV, film, sports and arranging to go out. Many resources are suitable to use for cover work as they have full instructions and answers provided (on a separate page).
Some of these resources are available for free separately, but I’ve included them here as they are the same theme.

French KS3 grammar basics: verbs
A set of worksheets and activities on common regular and irregular verbs in the present, perfect and near future tenses. Also reflexive verbs in the present tense. Some are quick starter tasks, others are longer worksheets which would be well suited to homework or cover lesson tasks. All these resources are aimed at years 7, 8 and 9, but equally may be useful revision materials for lower ability GCSE students. A saving of 50% compared to buying these resources separately! I’ve included some free resources just because they match this group.
French differentiated reading comprehension about holidays
A pair of French texts, very similar in content but one using more elaborate language and more detail. Reading comprehension questions are on separate sheets. You could use this as a running competition, where the texts are stuck on the wall and pupils must take turns in a group to run to find an answer. Also can be used as scaffolding to support a piece of writing - the underlined vocab can be replaced with pupils’ own choice.
French chopped up sentences about school day
A worksheet with a list of sentences about the school day. The sentences have been chopped up and jumbled so pupils must match them up again to make sense. I would cut up the right hand side so pupils can move the pieces around. Pupils can also translate the sentences into English, or they could adapt the sentences and add more details, to write about their own school day.
French gap-fill task describing hotel accommodation in imperfect tense
A set of 15 sentences in French with a word missing in each. Pupils choose the correct word from the list below to fill each gap. Sentences describe hotel accommodation in the imperfect tense. Could then be used as a translation exercise into English, or pupils could adapt or extend the sentences. Two copies fit on a side of A4, making it cheaper to photocopy. Answers provided on page 2 of the document.
French conversation questions about school
A list of 9 questions about school, all present tense except one future conditional. Can be used as pair work for listening/speaking, is suitable for exam preparation or revision, could also work as a lesson starter (one pupil gives a statement, another says which question it answered, for example). Four sets of questions fit on one side of A4.

A set of tasks and activities, mostly worksheets, on the theme of holidays. They cover names of countries, different tenses, accommodation and weather. There are some reading or writing tasks which cover the topic more broadly. Most of these resources are suitable for cover work: worksheets with full instructions and answers provided (on a separate page).

Match countries and capital cities in French
A list of 20 countries, mainly European, written in French. Pupils guess then check (with a dictionary/online) what the countries are in English, then match to their capital cities. Makes a good homework or team quiz, as time is needed for pupils to research - unless they have faultless knowledge of capital cities! Answers included on page 2 of document. Could be extended by asking pupils to suggest more countries & cities, or to name rivers/mountains/other cities, or nationalities.
French worksheet on the superlative
A short French worksheet to practise using the superlative. Pupils choose from a list to complete the sentences with the most difficult subject/most violent sport, etc, in their opinion. They are asked to translate their sentences and invent more of their own. Look out - you may want to adapt q6 to your own choice of teacher name!
