I teach English Literature in the Seychelles and so follow the Cambridge specifications for iGCSE and A-level. I like to chose texts which are a little different for my students, and often this means there are initially very few pre-made resources available online. I try to focus on helping students memorise key quotes and internalise writing structures where possible; thus quotes sheets, 20 in 10s and example essay responses feature very highly in my resources.

Planned for Cambridge A-level students but could easily be adapted. This lesson focuses on the opening chapters of the novel, paying particular attention to narrative structure and points of view (using creative writing and other extracts from novels as a way into this discussion). The lesson then moves onto Lockwood's impression of himself as romantic hero and ends with reading of chapter 4. A clip of Indiana Jones is included to demonstrate conventions of the heroic.

This lesson focuses on chapters 32-34 of the novel, considering the use of pathetic fallacy, weather as signifier of events and using literature and language devices to break down close language analysis. The lesson resources include video clips, creative writing starter tasks, discussion questions, active device learning, worksheets and key extracts.

These two lessons explores Act 4.1 and 4.2, considering the relationship between Isabella and the Duke and, duologues, the characterisation of the Duke and key quotes.
