Functional skills lesson on punctuation, paragraphing, writing in different tenses and using this to write a review. Comes with a reading comprehension, a discussion and a recap of a spelling technique I used in a previous lessons. Lesson is complete with sample answers, extension activities and peer marking for the final written piece. Punctuation covered: commas, full stops, exclamation marks, apostrophes and possessive apostrophes.

Functional skills lesson to prepare the students for sitting the writing exam. Looks at fact and opinion/ understanding the wording of the questions, the spelling rules and practice of Cial and Tial suffixes and the Sion and Tion rule. Also looks at using adjectives (for writing question 1) and using information from a text in the form of buying a car (writing question 2). Should last over two hours. A functional skills English lesson looking at how to write all texts. Fact and opinion and writing an article. Comes with both a reading and a writing task, lasts about two hours, extension activities included. Letter writing, Email writing, Article writing, Speech Writing and Instructional Texts

A lesson designed to help students become more clear and concise in their writing. Looks at how to make a text more persuasive and is a nice introduction into using persuasive language techniques (direct address, rule of three, powerful adjectives and rhetorical questions). Goes into how techniques would be used for certain text types. It should last approximately two hours. Fully differentiated with extension activities. KS2 adaptable

A revision lesson going in depth in how to use context to add greater depth to an answer looks at question 3, 4 and 5 should take two hours. Is themed on the police and our rights as citizens, its a really nice lesson for discussions and for pushing students to get the higher grades. GCSE AQA Revision looking at questions 3, 4 and 5 for paper 1. AO4 Lesson objectives based on Blooms Taxonomy, extension activities and model answers included, can last between two hours to three depending on the ability of the class. Looks at Structural techniques, Language analysis and Creative writing.

A functional skills lesson on the theme on employability, looks at common work terminology for British employment, it has a reading and a writing task to suit writing a cover letter and understanding a person specification. Discussion opportunities throughout the text its a really good opportunity to talk to students about work. Tasks on connectives and complex and simple sentences included. Should last around 1 hour 40 mins depending on class ability.

Functional skills lesson on speech writing, looks at proofreading, planning and employability, should take around an hour and a half depending on class ability.

Speaking and listening exam preparation. Looks at mark scheme for both exam tasks to suit the new spec of the Edexcel functional skills lesson. New Year comprehension included for Functional Skills level 1 but can be adapted for Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE English.

Starter 10 minutes define sophisticated vocab Celebrations taboo 20 minutes Word search of language techniques 15 minutes A05 practice 15 minutes Identify four things from the video and discuss 10 minutes AO2 use inference to get meaning from nonsense sentences 10 Minutes Writing puns (AO5) Students write cheesey jokes based on the prompts. 15 minutes. Over the break game where students build on each others activities 10 minutes Team quiz with 12 questions - sorry theres a promise of chocolate for the winners at the end. Plenary match up of the sophisticated words from the beginning.

Question 4 paper 2 of GCSE English language for AQA. The theme is on money and life choices designed for a two hour lesson. The lesson objectives are scaffolded using Bloom’s taxonomy verbs. Starter - statements promoting critical thinking (with answers) Recap - Explode a quote (sample answer) Task 1 - perspective and attitude teaching and 15 minute task Task 2 - Inference about life choices and language analysis extension 15 Minute task but you can allow extra time for class discussion. Task 3 - Analysis of sample answer, students label the answer using terms from the mark scheme. Task 4 - reading of the two texts and analysis (video link as well) Task 5 - question 5 quick attempt Task 5 - Plenary students identify themes and ideas as of being 19th or 21st Century attitudes.
