Practice is what it takes when learning verb conjugations. In the very beginning our students learn regular French -ER, -IR and -RE verbs in the present tense. This is an audio verb drill (native speaker) of 100 common regular French verbs that you can use either in the classroom or language lab. I've included five great ways for you to use this drill.
The audio recording you will download will be great for listening comprehension and oral production, written exercises, paired work and even a cooperative learning group writing game.
Example:
FINIR - TO FINISH - JE - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - JE FINIS
ATTENDRE - TO WAIT - TU - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - TU ATTENDS
VENDRE - TO SELL - IL - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - IL VEND
ABOLIR - TO ABOLISH - NOUS - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - NOUS ABOLISSONS
MANGER - TO EAT - VOUS - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - VOUS MANGEZ
RÉUSSIR - TO SUCCEED - ILS - 5 seconds to say or write answer before recorded response - ILS RÉUSSISSENT
During the recording the verbs are not numbered so that you can easily choose a group of 10 or 15 at any point during the exercise to use as bell ringer reviews or to get your students in French mode as they enter the classroom. Use this drill at any time during the year as an excellent review. Use it with upper level students who sometimes need to revise the basics or provide a copy to struggling students who can use it as review while riding on the bus or in the car.
Included:
20 minute m4a audio recording of 100 regular French verbs in the present tense.

Playing French TABOO is a great way to get students to speak French and learn a lot of new vocabulary. This game is simple to modify and use with beginners and advanced students alike. In this L'AÉROPORT ET LA GARE theme version of the game there 30 French-English cards. There are 2 fun ways to play this fun vocabulary game and both are explained in the instructions.
How to play classic Taboo (beginner and advanced levels)
60 Taboo game cards to print, laminate, cut out and hook together with a ring
Black and white and color versions included
How to play 15 MINUTES MAX - an alternative version of the game
15 MINUTES MAX game board
Sheet to record new words in French and English (nouveaux mots)
*In the upper left corner there's a spot for you to punch holes in the cards so that you can then attach them with a ring for no prep use every time. Be sure to laminate if at all possible!
Object of the game:
One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.
Have your students unscramble words to make grammatically sound sentences in French. The sentences are 10 to 14 words in length and are a good challenge for beginners. This exercise is also great to use as a review. You could even cut out the sentences into strips and use them as bell-ringers, exit slips or a fun scoot game.

Everyone loves a good game of BATTLESHIP, and the French classroom is a better place than any! You can use this classic game format to have your students practice the imperfect tense. This game is perfect for both core and immersion curriculums and everything written on the games is in French.
*There is not an answer key included with this resource due to the number of responses possible. I encourage you to allow your students to use a resource that you choose for them to check your answers. If you're not sure what to use I can highly recommend verb2verb.com.
This resource includes 40 regular and irregular verbs. 5 different versions of the game are included.
ust print out one page of the version of this game that you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats.
Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the imperfect tense. Another idea is to have students make simple sentences using the subject pronoun and verb of choice.
All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent.
This resource includes 5 versions of the game with both black and white and color copies.

Keep your middle school and high school French students active by playing the "Two Extremes" game. The facilitator will use a stack of cards listing things, activities or places that fall at opposite ends of the spectrum, such as: salty or sweet, Paris or New York, Mac or PC.
The students start standing in a big group, but when each choice is read, they move to the side of the room that the facilitator indicates is associated with their choice (see the arrows on the cards). Those who can’t make up their mind or don’t have a preference remain in the center. Students will see all of the things that they have in common with their classmates and will likely learn some new vocabulary while they’re at it!
These cards are great for middle school or high school and can be used at any time, especially when everyone needs a break and needs to stand up and move around a bit.
This activity requires no teacher prep once the set of cards is printed and cut out. Don’t want to print or don’t have time to do so? That’s ok! There’s a PDF file with only one card per page that you can project and play as a class.
Included:
PDF of big cards to project when you don’t want to print
Stack of 50 cards to print, cut out, punch holes in and attach with a ring - Black and white & color copies provided
