La Famille - French 20 questions game - No prep speaking activity The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions. This version of the game focuses on 52 nouns and verbs which are all about the family / la famille. This game work for any level as it is written in French and English. Want a real challenge for your upper levels or immersion students? Use the French only version! Included: 1 version with vocabulary written in French and English 1 version with vocabulary written in French only Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and use it as a whole class activity. This game includes 52 words. Many of the words may be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they’ve played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT Alternative game play: To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. French partitive articles and other forms of DE complete lesson - DE LA - DE L’ - DU - DES - DE - D’ We all know how difficult it can be for students to know when to use the correct form of DE when they don’t know all of the rules and when they’ve not had enough practice. This is a complete lesson plan that you can even use on a day when you can’t be at school and you have a sub who isn’t a French teacher. This resource includes a 30 minute video lesson. There is a one page printable study guide with rules and examples to accompany the video lesson, and the best part is the set of 100 numbered practice cards and answer key that will give your students tons of opportunities to practice. This lesson focuses on using DE or D’ before adjectives that come before the noun, the partitive with masculine, feminine, singular, and plural nouns, using DE or D’ after different forms of negation, using DE after certain verbs when followed by an infinitive, and using DE or D’ with expressions of quantity, and I’ve included a few tricky ones which do not use DE when referring to specific nouns, and that’s mentioned in the video lesson. I’ve included a set of 100 printable cards that you can cut out, and if you prefer a paperless version I’ve also included a PDF with only one card per page to project as a whole class activity or for students to use on tablets or computers.

French verb FALLOIR - Present tense with indirect object pronouns This French lesson is for intermediate learners who have learned IL FAUT and INDIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS. It is meant to show the many ways to use the verb FALLOIR - NEED without using the subjunctive. Students will learn the different meanings this verb can have and how to easily start speaking more like a French person in terms of expressing what they need (instead of using AVOIR BESOIN DE and DEVOIR). Here’s what’s included: Video tutorial - 23 minutes Thorough 1 page study guide - PDF 80 practice cards using FALLOIR + numbered answer key This resource includes two versions of the 80 practice cards. One version has four cards per page that you can print and cut them out in case you want your students to work with a partner or in small groups. The other version is a PDF with only one card per page so that you can either project them for a whole class activity or have students practice on their tablets or computers. This resource includes a video lesson which you may or may not choose to use, but even if you want to teach the lesson yourself I think you and your students will appreciate the one page study guide that is included. One player thinks of an object and the other players try to guess what it is. Each card has an image of a person, place, or a thing. The person holding the card is the one who will do the most speaking. The other people in the group will simply ask questions like “Is it a _____?” All they can ask is if the image on the card is a particular noun. The person holding the card has to answer by saying, “No, it’s not a ____ because……” Examples: Player 1 is holding a card and sees an image of a banana. Player 2 says something like, “Is it a shoe?” Player 1 has to respond by starting out with saying something like “No, because it’s not something you wear.” Player 2 guesses another specific noun, and then another. He or she might say “Is it a chair?” Player 1 might say "No, because you don’t sit on it. Player 2 continues to guess, and might say “Is it a car?” Player 1 might say “No, because you don’t drive it.” Player 2 continues to guess, and might say “Is it broccoli?” Player 1 might say “No, because it’s sweeter.” Player 2 might say “Is it an apple?” Now that Player 2 has guessed a fruit, he’s pretty close. Player 1 can now say something like “No, but it is a fruit.” Player 2 now just starts guessing different fruits until he or she gets it.
