What makes a number? These visual aids help children to see what a number is. On the poster there are eight different ways to represent the number - word, base 10, ten frame, objects, tally, fingers, place value counters, dice face. I am encouraging children to use different ways to represent a number so that they understand the value each number rather than just recognising.

I made these resources to help my class with the arithmetic element of the SATS paper. Every morning when they come in they complete the task for that day. It has been a huge success! The sheets are in our schools default font but I have converted them to a PDF for ease of use. These questions are a combination of all the expected SATs questions. Some of the questions towards the end weeks are based on reasoning questions.

This activity is based on the concept of doing 2 or 4 daily arithmetic questions. The questions are based on examples from the SATS paper and the structure it uses. Each week is a different theme and there are varied questions each day. For autumn the questions are based on number, addition, subtraction and multiplication. Where there are two questions per day children can show their workings out if needed. Question 4 is normally an obscure question that makes the children fully apply their knowledge. There are 15 weeks in total but week one is 3 days so that you have time to explain the concept to the children. The documents come in word and PDF.
