Puzzles have clues in English or French; all answers are in French. After filling in the answers, students transfer the letters to a grid which spells out a proverb in French. A fun way to introduce a bit of French culture to lower level classes. Includes 8 puzzles.
Print on cardstock and cut apart into individual cards. Cards have the pictures of 36 different flags. Make 1 set for every 3-4 students. Cards are pictures only, so they are good for any language. For SLAP: Place cards face up on the desk. Teacher calls out one of the cards. First student to SLAP the card, wins it. At end of round, the student with the most cards wins. For GO FISH: Each set of cards has 2 or 4 copies of the page. Deal 6 cards per player. The remaining cards go face down in the fish pond. Any pairs that students already have may be set down at the beginning of their first turn. They must say I have 2 (a pair of) … when laying down the cards. For their turn they ask another player Do you have a … If yes, they get the card, announce their pair and lay them down. If no, they draw a card from the fish pond.
Word search has the names of 21 fish and seafoods in French hidden. There are 5 versions for each of 3 different formats (same 5 puzzles used in all 3 formats). Format 1 gives the noun in French; students fill in the definite article, translate to English and then find the French word in the puzzle. Format 2 gives the English; students fill in the French and then find it in the puzzle. Format 3 has no list; students are to give both the English and the French and find the French words in the puzzle.
