A lesson which is aimed towards KS4. Pupils are given an exam style questions focusing on Nick the narrator and his opinions in Chapter 1. Pupils are encouraged to read the extract a paragraph at a time and fill in the table, identifying quotations which prove Nick’s opinions and analyse them. This lesson is meant to be quick paced but you could definitely adapt to suit the needs of your class. A filled in table is also provided for the teacher.

A lesson looking at the differences between East and West Egg - an important concept within the novel The Great Gatsby. Pupils are encouraged to read the extract attached, highlighting and selecting quotations linked to the setting. The quotations are also on the ppt. Pupils are then asked to try to draw out what they think East/West Egg looks like on the map and then compare to the images on the ppt. Lastly, they compare the differences between East and West Egg.

A lesson which centres around introducing the main characters of the novel: Nick, Gatsby, Daisy and Tom Buchanan. An introduction lesson to War of the Worlds. Great for both KS3 and KS4 as you can adapt the lesson to fit the needs of your pupils. The lesson focuses on the pupils making predictions based around certain images included on the powerpoint. These images link to the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. Pupils then listen to the radio broadcast to see for themselves and answer some empathic questions based around the broadcast.

An ideal revision lesson for Year 10 or 11. Focuses on Romeo’s character over the course of the play, with key scenes and quotations being provided. Pupils simply have to analyse what each quotation suggests about his character overall. This could also provide a good starting point for writing an essay about Romeo as well.

The end of the lesson they are encouraged to debate why Nancy makes the decisions that she does, and whether she is a good or bad character and why.

A fun exciting lesson which can be used by both KS3 and KS4. A range of recent film clips were shown to the pupils to engage them in how directors create tension in their films. Then the pupils pick their own film clip that they want to recreate in their writing. A model response is included to help.

A lesson which I used with my KS4 class to further their understanding of the final scene of Romeo and Juliet. Pupils play the board game and answer the questions as they go. Questions are differentiated from easy select and retrieve to more difficult analysis questions. Worked very well and allowed my class to explore independently!
