I have an Honours degree in English Literature and Linguistics from UEA and have written a dissertation about encouraging children to write. I am a mother of three and interested in all things green. I have bundled together ten resources which will prove useful for revision purposes. Each quiz is complete with answers providing ease of marking. The sections to each quiz can be easily tweaked in order to meet specific problems within the group. When used on a regular basis, students will come to love the character of Joe who struggles with spelling and who is in desperate need of advice as exams and assessments appear on the horizon.Each quiz contains exercises to do with different aspects of spelling, punctuation and grammar. When used regularly and on a rotational basis, standards will improve. Suitable for ages 10+

I have bundled together ten resources which will help with the revision of spelling, punctuation and grammar in the weeks prior to assessments. Each individual resource has answers to each section of the quiz, which will allow for ease of marking. The sections can be easily tweaked to meet a specific need within the class. Pupils will come to identify with Joe who finds spelling difficult and who clearly needs advice on his approach to the exam season. The resources could be used throughout the term as a constant reminder of those common spelling and grammatical errors which inevitably cost valuable marks if not addressed. Suitable for ages 10+

This resource is ideal to use on the run up to Easter. It contains a crossword where all the answers are the names of well known chocolate bars. When the answers are placed correctly onto the grid the highlighted letters, when rearranged will spell out the name of a famous Roald Dahl character. Pupils are required to think about a place to go where their family would enjoy a special day out and also design their own chocolate bar thinking about the ingredients contained within it as well as the packaging. Suitable for ages 10+ I include one of my popular Spagbag quizzes which should prove useful when revising aspects of grammar, spelling and punctuation.All answers are provided for ease of marking.

This animated Power Point provides pupils with 56 sets of homophones and varied opportunities to test their knowledge of the meaning of these words in different contexts. Passages are given containing multiple homophones and pupils are asked to put their own creative writing skills to the test. This resource has an element of fun to it, including puns and challenges to think outside the box. I include another word document which could be used alongside the Power Point , or separate from it , which includes a revision mix featuring homophones. This document could cater for differing abilities within the class or as a homework task. Suitable for ages 8+

This resource contains a Power Point about homophones and three differentiated worksheets which will prove useful when revising many aspects of grammar and punctuation. Students are given simple sentences which they have to make more interesting. They are given short passages to correct which contain no capital letters or punctuation marks.They have paragraphs where they will need to substitute more powerful verbs. They have colour synonyms to group and have homophones to select. They have to show case their descriptive writing skills describing a friend/ animal and bedroom. There is a further challenge to write a lengthy paragraph show-casing their knowledge of homophones. These resources could be used for homework purposes and for revision on the approach to more formal exams. Suitable for ages 8+

I have bundled together ten resources which focus on endangered animals and conservation issues . Polar bears, sea turtles and albatrosses all face particular problems in our seas and oceans. These resources take a look at these creatures and how they are adapted to their natural environment and what steps we must take in order for them to survive in greater numbers. The problem of plastic waste is a recurring theme in several of these resources. This bundle includes quizzes, comprehensions , poetry and puzzles which will engage pupils and inspire them to do their own independent research. Suitable for ages 7 and upwards.

This animated Powerpoint presents pupils with information about the wandering albatross and the problems it faces with fishing boats and plastic waste. Pupils will learn about this endangered bird with its enormous wing span and how it glides across the Southern Ocean for huge distances in search of food. Pupils are asked to consider the challenges this creature faces in its quest for food and hear David Attenborough's warning about pollution in our seas and oceans as brought to our attention in the Blue Planet series. Students are asked to create their own eye catching poster and to use their persuasive writing skills in order to redress the problem of plastic waste. I include a puzzle entitled Planet Patrol concerning conservation issues as an added extra. All answers are provided.A word document is also included concerning the problem of plastic waste and includes some advice from Greenpeace. Pupils are asked to contribute their own ideas by adding to the list. These resources are intended to promote discussion and will encourage independent research and further investigation. Save the sea turtles informative writing and the problem of plastic waste.

This animated Powerpoint presents pupils with information about the endangered leatherback sea turtle and highlights the problems faced by this creature as its numbers decline. One of the problems it faces is plastic pollution which is all too prevalent in our seas and oceans. Plastic bags are mistaken for the jelly-fish that the turtles love to eat. Worrying statistics are given about the growing problem of plastic in the ocean environment and a quote from Sir David Attenborough is displayed to highlight the need to act with some urgency before it is too late. The resource will prove useful alongside clips from the Blue Planet series and should inspire further research, provocative posters and persuasive writing. I include information in a word document which could be easily used as a homework task or for further research on sea turtles. The planet patrol wordsearch contains over twenty interlocked words in a grid concerning conservation issues and could be easily differentiated to suit different abilities. All answers provided. Included is a word document about the problem with plastic waste and includes some advice from Greenpeace. Students are invited to contribute ideas of their own and to design a poster conveying this problem in our marine environments. Suitable for ages 8+

This animated Powerpoint asks pupils to improve sentences by adding adjectives. They are asked to identify adjectives within a paragraph and then to alter the tone of the paragraph by supplying different adjectives to the ones given in the original version. Colour synonyms need to be sorted into those associated with red, blue, yellow and green and pupils are then given objects and scenarios to describe using these more unusual words.Two poems are showcased one about the changing colours of the sea and one about the colour red. Lastly an extract taken from J.K.Rowling’s The Prisoner of Azkaban is displayed and pupils are asked to consider how she appeals to different senses through her descriptive techniques. A worksheet is included in word format to accompany the Powerpoint and to explore further creative writing activities as well as a further Power Point which takes extracts from The Prisoner of Azkaban and asks students to identify spelling errors. Answers will reveal themselves as if by magic. Suitable for ages 8+

This animated PowerPoint presents a short quiz based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The audience is presented with three possible answers to each question. The correct answer will magically reveal itself. Pupils are required to make as many Muggle words as possible out of the letters contained within the Hogwarts' house names. Finally students are presented with information texts describing two different breeds of dragon. Their task is either to design a meal which will tantalise the taste-buds of a Peruvian Vipertooth or else design a matching shield and gauntlets set made from the skin of the Swedish short snout... This resource will appeal to Potter fans of all ages. Prior knowledge of the text is not vital.

This animated Powerpoint exhibits passages from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone which have deliberate spelling mistakes in them. Pupils are required to read the passages carefully to see if they can identify the mistakes. The corrected passages will magically appear. Homophones are introduced and students are set the challenge of writing interesting sentences of their own which demonstrate their understanding of such words as which and witch etc. Another spelling game is introduced where the audience have to make up as many muggle (ordinary) words as they can out of Potter's fabulous incantations. This is intended as a fun way to practise spelling whilst also encouraging careful reading at the same time. Ideal for Halloween week and beyond. Suitable for Potter fans of all ages.

This Power Point quiz revises plurals, commas, apostrophes for contractions, adverbs and capital letters. There is a passage for the audience to decipher featuring Joe which has lots of deliberate spelling mistakes in it.Joe prefers watching his favourite football team on TV rather than completing his homework. Pupils have the opportunity to write about their favourite sport or activity whilst demonstrating their knowledge of a range of punctuation marks. This is just one in a series of similar quizzes which can be found in my shop and which , when used on a regular basis , will help to raise levels of achievement. I have bundled together three resources which will be useful for the study of letter writing and in particular how a letter saved the day when we look at the intrigues surrounding the Gunpowder Plot. This resource has more relevance today because of the new drama series entitled Gunpowder which stars Kit Harington of Game of Thrones fame who plays Robert Catesby, the brains behind the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Here Harington reveals he is a direct ancestor of Catesby.

This animated Power Point collates several pieces of writing about hurricanes. There are informative texts, diagrams, eye-witness reports as well as poems about hurricanes. There are before and after descriptions as well as a transcript of a public radio announcement broadcast before a hurricane strike. Having absorbed and discussed the varied texts, students are then given the option of writing either a news report, an appeal leaflet or a poem inspired by this fascinating phenomenon. I include a resource about wild wind which would be useful when discussing poetry and in particular personification. Suitable for ages 10+

In this one students need to decide between homophones to complete sentences, to choose between I and me, to insert semi-colons and to form opposites by adding a prefix. This animated PowerPoint consists of 25 slides and is intended to accompany the reading of Patrick Ness’ novel, A Monster Calls. Students are asked to consider what constitutes a nightmare and how our senses can feed into our subconscious mind. They are required to consider elements of a Gothic novel and how atmosphere is created both in terms of the words and the illustrations here. What is the significance of the ancient yew tree and how does this relate to modern day cancer treatments? Pupils are asked to list what they can glean about the major characters and to examine where their own sympathies lie. Finally they are required to write their own review of this memorable novel and are invited to do their own independent research about Herne the Hunter and the techniques the illustrator used to ensure this novel became a multi-award winning one. I include a resource about mindfulness as a tool to help with anger issues and difficult emotions which Conor might have benefited from as he coped with losing his mother. Also included are other word documents which display information about the mythology of the Green Man and a poem which is a call to the Green Man, which will be useful when discussing wider symbolism and environmental issues.There are worksheets on which pupils can record character sketches for both major and minor characters within the book, as well as explore Conor’s emotional struggle in graphic detail. This Powerpoint resource is intended to be used to improve spelling throughout years 9 to 11. It includes 60 words most commonly misspelt by students and various tips on how to learn them such as look, say, cover, write and check. Students are encouraged to look for smaller words within the longest spellings and to break them down into parts as well as other tips for specific words. Exercises are given where students have to complete sentences, solve anagrams and invent their own sentences using three given words from the set. A word document containing the words split into five sets of twelve words can be used to enable ease of learning and repeated practice. I include one of my popular spelling, punctuation and grammar quizzes which includes answers for ease of marking. This resource is intended for use by students aged 12+
