Whole School Assembly -Respecting Others

I presented this assembly to my house and it lasted about 15 minutes once everyone had come in and sat down. It starts with a video link to students trying to define what respecting others means. This then leads into thinking about what disrepect looks like from teachers to students and then vice versa to identify that it wouldn’t look much different. It then goes on to look at what disrespect of other students looks like. From this it then build on disrespect to discuss why respecting others is important and looks to define our school’s definition of respect ( you can obviously change this). Finally it looks at setting the students a challenge of creating their own school respect charter.

This assembly focuses on making a success of returning to the new normal and is based around the four Rs to success: Reflect - relfecting on the positives that have come out of lockdown Resilience - not giving up because they think they have missed so much school. this focuses on two countries that suffered from natural disasters but students actually perfomred better on return to school despite missing many weeks Responsibility - this focuses on the collective responsibility we all have in following the rules that have come out of the new normal e.g social distancing, one way systems Reac out - telling students of the support on offer if they are struggling to adapt to the new normal This presentation will last about 15 minutes, is fully scripted and i intend to present it to all students in their tutor time via zoom.

New Year's Resolutions assembly 2021 -What is your 5 year plan?

This assembly starts by getting student to think about new years resolutions they made in 2020 and probably failed at. It then goes through a more sustainable long term 5 year plan and what this might look like for students. It lasts around 15 minutes and is a great assembly for the start of the new year. It is aimed at all secondary year groups and worked well when I performed it, especially when students got involved. Save yourself some time this Christmas and grab a bargain. Thanks Jonny

New Years Resolution assembly 2020 - learning to break your resolutions.

This assembly takes a twist on the idea of setting resolutions that are usually broken. It starts with statistics on the most popular resolutions and the further statistics on how likely people are to stick to resolutions all in a very clear and colourful way. It then leads on to students setting a resolution to learn to fail and that breaking resolutions isn’t necessarily a bad thing as long as they can learn from their mistakes and try again. It then goes on to go through some high profile case studies of successful people who have failed many times but not given up and learned from failure. It lasts around 15 minutes and is a great assembly for the start of the new year. It is aimed at all secondary year groups and worked well when I performed it especially when students got involved. This assembly powerpoint takes a twist on the idea of setting a new years resolution, by hanging on to the idea that everybody wants to be successful. It then looks at what successful people do to ensure they are successful with school based examples that students can relate to. If students haven't mad new years resolutions this assembly will inspire them to and if they have then it may give them some more to work towards. This assembly lasted 15 minutes and went down well with the students.

Whole school assembly - Learning to Fail

I presented this assembly to my house and it lasted about 15 minutes once everyone had come in and sat down. It starts with a video link to base jumpers which worked really well at keeping all the students quiet as they walked in. It also sets up nicely for learning to fail as these guys clearly can't fail, but in school failure is all part of learning and so students should embrace failure. The assembly then goes through the endeavors of famous people who have dealt with failure numerous times and moved on from these set backs and learnt from them successfully. It finishes by suggesting a "a fail Friday" where across the school students and teachers alike are encouraged to take risks in lessons and step outside if their comfort zones. Save yourself some time planning and grab yourself a bargain.

Assembly: Back to school September - Collecting your life miles

I used this assembly last September with my school assembly and it went down really well with the students really captivated by the story of David Phillips who managed to collected 1.25million air miles by buying puddings (look the story up on google - worth a read). Essentially, the powerpoint which lasts around 15minutes goes through David's story but then uses it as an analogy for "life miles" which they collect when they attend school, it goes through how to collect more " life miles" and shows you what you can buy with them which is essentially choices like university, dream jobs, travelling the world. Save yourself some time and effort and get this ready to use off the shelf assembly. Thanks for looking Jon

Assembly: How do you want to be perceived by others?

This assembly starts with some nice optical illusions which leads on to the concept of perception. It then looks at various stereotypes in school such as Jocks, Class Clown etc and looks at the qualities of each, and asks students how they would like their peers to perceive them. It then looks at how future education or employment would perceive them looking at the information the school would provide them with - Attendance, behavior points, achievement points, GCSE's and the qualities these would show if they were good. It also considers social media and how students should be aware of what they post now could be seen by future employers. The last few slides are to be filled in by me as they are specific to my school where I will be going over the best attendance, behaviour etc in the past month to hand out a reward. This assembly lasts 15 minutes Save yourself an afternoon planning and grab a bargain. Thanks for looking.

Assembly - Consequences and responsibility

This assembly worked really well, opening with a slide asking if students believed in Karma. It then goes on through various consequences of actions and how scientifically the teen brain is not always capable of thinking about long term consequences, but that students still have to take responsibility for their action. It lasted 15 minutes and was received well. Grab yourself a bargain and save yourself an afternoon of planning. Enjoy

Assembly: Should the school day start at 10am?

This assembly grabs the students attention with the first slide asking them to vote whether or not school should start at 10am instead of 8.50. The assembly goes on to look at the arguments for and against and the current research that is going on in the uk at the moment with 100 test school. I went on to tell them that unfortunately we haven't been selected for the trial but its findings could impact us. I then went on to say that until then they should take note of the sleep scientists top tips for a good night sleep which includes the science of blue light from mobile phone screens and its effect on the sleep hormone melatonin. This powerpoint lasts around 15minutes. Enjoy.

New Year Assembly 2018

This assembly has a focus on the RAOK challenge - random acts of kindness and is planned to be around 15 minutes long. I played the video at the start to keep the students engaged as they entered and it worked really well. Half way through there is another video where people are asked if one person can change the world. My head boy and girl then took over reading a script provided, telling the story of a "RAOK" movement called the karma army (this could quite easily be done by yourself). The assembly concludes with ways in which the students can carry out random acts of kindness and also looking at school charities. Hope this is useful and saves you some time.
