My Left Foot Studying a key scene model notes

To accompany my resource - My Left Foot studying a key scene - this is a completed booklet with model examples of analysis for each bullet point. I get pupils to complete their own notes first, collate their ideas on the projector, then issue this booklet with examples of how they could develop their observations into written analysis. It's been a great resource for helping pupils to write essays about a key scene in the film.

Stars Shall Be Bright by Catherine MacPhail

A set of questions about all 10 chapters of this lovely short novel. 'Stars Shall Be Bright ' is a terrific story inspired by the true story of the Quintinshill rail disaster where more than 200 first world war soldiers were killed in the UK's worst ever rail collision. This Barrington Stoke book is specifically developed to support dyslexic readers, but can be used with all pupils.

An excellent resource for getting pupils to analyse the effectiveness of a writer's word choice. A homework sheet with a step-by-step guide to how to tackle each sentence. My pupils' close reading (comprehension/interpretation) marks improved significantly after doing this.

A worksheet that I created for revision purposes before National 5 and Higher English exams in Scotland. (But suitable for England too) Tackles parenthesis, repetition, listing, colons, semi-colons etc. Pupils said this really helped them clarify how to answer many of the exam questions.

Developed to assess Listening for the Scottish National 5 English qualification, but an interesting activity for any English or Media class, these questions focus on a YouTube interview in which Malala revisits the day she was shot, and shares her opinions about life for young girls under the Taliban.

Kes The Play by Barry Hines and Allan Stronach

A worksheet to help pupils build on their skills of writing for information and sequencing. My pupils really enjoyed doing this after reading the scene in which Billy describes the process of training Kes. They worked in pairs to complete the sheet in their own words.
