Non-fiction texts are those that are true and give factual information to the reader. They are not stories. The examples of non-fiction texts are newspaper articles, adverts, biographies and texts that give instructions. Instruction texts tell the reader how to do something in steps or stages. They must be written clearly so the reader can easily understand each step to follow them. Instructions can be seen everywhere in daily life all around us - from the packaging on our favourite foods, recipe packs, and juser manuals on how to use a new machine/device, to ‘how to’ videos on the internet or social media. Use this PPT/Pdf to help your students learn about writing instructions. When you purchase and download this resource, find a freebie (Hand washing poster making task) ppt.

Homonyms - Lesson 1 and 2

In linguistics, homonyms, are words which are homographs or homophones, or both. A more technical definition sees homonyms as words that are simultaneously homographs and homophones – with identical spelling and pronunciation, but different meanings. These are two complete lessons to help you teach your students what homonyms are, learning with examples and using in sentences individually.

Fiction Text - Story Writing - Planning and drafting a story

(0)
Story writing is an essential part of English writing skills. Learners should write a new story based on the text given in the exam including all the elements of the story: setting, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. They need to plan for a few minutes before writing the story. In most Cambridge proression tests, students are required to continue writing a story (beginning or context is provided). Sometimes learners are expected to write the beginning of the story too. This resource is compatible with story writing objectives in British National Curriculum as well as Cambridge International Primary framework.
