A 3 part lesson which builds the necessary skills to push for higher marks designed for language paper 1, question 5. However, differentiated versions have been used with a variety of ages and abilities with much success also. This resource is designed to respond to an assessment for a Year 9 class, but is easily edited to match the needs of the class. Lesson one focus: structuring a response, lesson 2: some elements of linguistic devices and advanced vocabulary, and then concluded with the production of a Section B response.

This fully-differentiated lesson is based on creating a setting description using basic (some advanced) language techniques, including a summary of word classes. Based on the description of District 12, students are pushed to create their own dilapidated setting.

A MA lesson which links personification to pop-culture and builds towards a descriptive task. Used for a LA class and was the most successful method in understanding personification. (Links to videos are salient to the lesson).

Explores the theme of power in ‘Macbeth’ and encourages subjectivity and discussion. Used for a double lesson and prompted a great discussion on the role of power in the 21st century and then linked to the play.

A lesson which introduces students to ‘Romeo and Juliet’ through an exploration of the role of the Prologue. Students are encouraged to think about the role, impact and summary of the Prologue.
Researched collection of reading strategies to support students in their reading development in a post-lockdown era. The strategies are aimed at secondary school ages, but can be easily adapted.
