Making of America - Slavery, Railways and Homesteaders - OCR SHP 1-9

This resource was created for a ‘turbo’ revision session that lasted an hour. There is an explain question on the expansion of slavery with a detailed but simplified overview of three key reasons why this happened. There is also a 9 mark (write an organised summary) question on the railways and two plans for questions on homesteaders. There is a detailed summary of the Homesteaders section to aid with these plans. Pupils found these very useful and were able to access the exam questions well.

These Power Points give an overview of the historiography surround Fascist foreign policy, the economy and the rise of Fascism in Italy. Essential to A-Level students. My students found these an excellent source for historians quotes and interpretations for essays. This will save the teacher lots of reading.

Same format as my Crime and Punishment knowledge tests. Simply stick the questions and answers back to back and then laminate. These are displayed on a 'GCSE Hub' display that my pupils can access whenever they need to. Influenced by research that says the best way to retain knowledge is to keep reviewing previous content in low-stakes knowledge tests. Used daily by pupils, especially those in my tutor who study history. Plains Indians, Mormons, Homesteaders, Early settlers, cowboys and law and order covered.

Battle of the Somme - Learning curve or slaughter?

This enquiry can take 2-3 lessons to complete. Pupils work in small groups using the information sheets provided to come to their own conclusion. There is advice on how to approach the research, structure their notes and how to justify their conclusion. Pupils have to choose which historians they agree with, if they agree with either. I get pupils to move to an area of the room to make their judgement - this is shown on the PPT. Highly engaging lesson and builds the skills required on any young historian. You can add other sources to the lesson.
