This resource is a Halloween themed battleships partner game to introduce and reinforce the teaching of coordinates in the first quadrant. There are 10 grids which can be used to play with a partner. These could be laminated and used time and time again. There is also a score record sheet. Instructions: Divide class into pairs. Players take turns to call out a co-ordinate. If an object is located players place a tick on their co-ordinates record sheet. If they do not locate a co-ordinate, they mark a cross on the record sheet. The player to locate all the items first is the winner. If a time limit is set, the player who locates the most items is the winner. The theme for this investigation resource is trees. It is intended to be used in week 10 of the Summer Term. The resource focuses on the following areas of the Year 6 Maths National Curriculum Objectives: Use knowledge of the order of operations to carry out calculations involving the four operations. Solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts deciding which operations and methods to use and why. Solve number problems and practical problems that involve all elements of place value. Solve problems involving the calculation and conversion of units of measure, using decimal notation to three decimal places. Worksheets and Activities Tree Problem - a gardener has been asked to plant 10 trees in five rows so that each row contains 4 trees. Is this possible? Tree Height Investigation 1 - Pupils calculate the height of tree by viewing from 45 degrees angle and measuring their distance away from tree Tree Height Investigation 2 - Pupils estimate the height of the tree using a different method so they can compare the two estimates. Tree Age Investigation - Pupils investigate the age of a tree by measuring its girth / circumference and applying a formula according to the type of tree. Conifer Tree Age Investigation - Pupils investigate the age of a conifer tree by counting the number of whorls. This resource contains a rugby-themed maths dice and a coin toss game. Both games are played with a partner. It is ideal to use during the 2023 World Rugby Cup tournament. Dice Game The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible. Players take turns to throw the dice. Every time a 5 is rolled, the player scores a try (5 points). If a player rolls a 5 he/she has another turn straightaway. If a 2 is rolled the player gets a conversion worth 2 points. If a 3 is rolled the player gets a drop kick worth 3 points. If a player scores four tries in the game he/she gets a bonus point. Coin Game A game for two players. Players choose which team from the Rugby World Cup they are playing for. Players toss a coin to see who goes first. The player who is first tosses the coin. If it lands on heads a try is scored worth 5 points. If it lands on tails no try is scored. Do this 6 times. If the points are equal after 6 attempts, players continue taking turns, tossing the coin until the first try is scored. This resource is a Halloween-themed battleships partner game to introduce and reinforce the teaching of coordinates in the first quadrant. There are ten grids which can be used to play with a partner. These could be laminated and used time and time again. There is also a score record sheet. Instructions: Divide class into pairs. Players take turns to call out a co-ordinate. If an object is located players place a tick on their co-ordinates record sheet. If they do not locate a co-ordinate, they mark a cross on the record sheet. The player to locate all the items first is the winner. If a time limit is set, the player who locates the most items is the winner. Please note that the watermark on the preview images is not present on the resource itself. This bundle contains five fun Christmas-themed games. Christmas Lotto or Bingo - 32 cards printed with both pictures and words and 32 cards printed with just words. Every child can participate due to the differentiation. The resource also includes flashcards of the words - with and without pictures could be used for other educational activities - sorting, alphabetical order, a stimulus for creative writing, pictures could be cut out and used to make Christmas cards, Christmas calendars, Christmas bookmarks and other Christmas decorations. etc Elves and Santas is a Christmas themed version of snakes and ladders. The resource can be enlarged to A3 size and laminated. There are 70 squares on the board. The game can be played with regular dice or numbered dice. This game is particularly appropriate for reception and Year 1 children (EYFS) as it will help to reinforce number recognition and counting skills. It can also be used with SEN pupils and will also help to develop turn-taking skills and social skills. Stop the Sleigh is a seasonal variation of ‘Stop The Bus’. This game involves pupils finding the names of various items in categories. The categories include - elf’s name, angel’s name, item of winter clothing, Christmas food, - toy or game, TV programme or film and an item that can be found on an Advent Calendar. Pupils are placed into teams of 2-4. Teams choose, in turn, a letter via an ‘advent calendar’. Behind each picture on the calendar is a letter. Teams have to think of one item to go into each category beginning with the selected letter. The first team to finish shouts “Santa – Stop the Sleigh!” If you have a bell a pupil can run out to ring the bell to stop the game! As a timer, choose some popular Christmas music. Christmas Happy Families - ths is a bright and colourful resource which can be laminated and used for many educational and fun activities. The game involves collecting all 4 members of the family. There are 56 cards ( 14 families ) printed with Christmas themed pictures. Christmas Snap contains 48 Christmas themed cards.
