This resource involves pupils creating sentences with the use of writing frames that contain many of the first one hundred high-frequency words. Writing sentences and reading them back helps pupils to embed and consolidate these words which they will then be able to use freely in their writing.
It is an ideal resource for young pupils and older pupils who have difficulty with writing and reading independently. It is particularly appropriate for SEN students. who find reading and writing challenging. The support of the frame makes sentence writing accessible and gives pupils a feeling of confidence - that they can do it! Often the key to success in getting pupils to write is giving them self-confidence. I have used these frames successfully over many years to get older SEN students motivated to read and write independently.
The resource includes:
Ten high-frequency word writing frames containing most of the first hundred high-frequency words -containing nouns, verbs and prepositions.
Accompanying writing sheet for use with the frames.
This resource can be laminated and used time and time again.

How to Become a Successful TES Author: Step-by-Step Guide
This resource contains an engaging, fully editable, 35-slide PowerPoint presentation on the theme of optical illusions and the messages these illusions contain. This is an ideal New Year assembly or for use during anti-bullying week.
The introduction begins with students making choices between items that are popular eg. football teams, Xbox or PlayStation, pizza or burger, Coronation Street or EastEnders etc. This opening serves to engage the pupils. It leads on to a slide on which they are asked to make a choice between a white van or a red sports car. However, there is no sports car - as it is an ‘optical illusion’ - the car is ‘painted’ on the van. This leads into the ‘optical illusions’.
Further optical illusions are introduced. There is also a hyperlink to an entertaining ‘optical illusion dance’ by teachers.
The main messages of the presentation are:
What we see and what is actually happening is not always the same and sometimes we jump to wrong conclusions - as exemplified in images that appear to be moving but are not.
We do not always see things from other people’s point of view - as exemplified in the young lady / old woman image
We do not always see the good things in people or situations - as exemplified in the ‘good / evil’ image
We sometimes put ourselves first instead of others - as exemplified in the me/you illusion image.
This resource could be used for assemblies ( the situations could be further explored through role play and drama and included in the final assembly presentation), PSE lessons and tutor based activities - particularly useful if there have been some issues around the themes covered by the assembly.
