The first lesson out of three that focuses on nouns. These have been written with 5/6 in mind but are easily adaptable.

These can be used for guided reading sessions or to give children as activities to support guided reading sessions/ whole class reading comprehensions. Three differentiated worksheets that focus on simple sentences and being able to identify different word classes such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. This then moves on to getting children to explain what is wrong with simple sentences before higher attainers check a passage to see if it follows the subject and predicate relationship before explaining why authors and writers wouldn't stick to just that.
A fully resourced lesson that focuses on homophones whilst also briefly visiting homonyms. This lesson identifies what homophones are, getting children to define different examples of homophones as well as then deciding on which is the correct option when they are used in sentences.

A whole class reading comprehension session based on Chapter Three from the Firework-Maker's Daughter. The session focuses on reading the chapter before looking at any vocabulary children are unsure of. Children will then be shown how to pick out key words from questions as well as looking at what question words are looking for. Finally, children will be able to work through one of three differentiated worksheets that check their comprehension skills/ deeper understanding.
A bundle of reading comprehensions related to famous people that links to any work around Black History Month, focussing on significant figures and their lives whilst also developing comprehension abilities.
A fact file about Queen Victoria that is also a reading comprehension. This includes three differentiated worksheets with 12 questions each and answers included to test children's comprehension knowledge as well as learning about Queen Victoria at the same time.
A fact file about Tutankhamun that is also a reading comprehension. This includes three differentiated worksheets with 11 questions each and answers included to test children's comprehension knowledge as well as learning about Tutankhamun at the same time.
A presentation that looks at determiners, focussing on demonstrative determiners and examples of these. This then extends to showing different examples of them in use before getting children to think about their position in relation to the noun and identify determiners themselves in a sentence.
