krisgreg30krisgreg30

Writing Skills Booklets

(0)
Five weeks worth of writing skills to practise independently. These can be used as a starter activity when pupils come in at the start of the morning, at the start of an English lesson as a starter or at any other spare moment during the day or even as a short intervention with a child or particular group of children. The activities over the week work on different skills around writing. These are similar across the booklets so far and include: Putting capital letters and full stops in the right place Completing ideas so they become full sentences Using because, but and so to complete sentences Writing their own independent sentences Using other conjunctions within a sentence Creating sentences that use particular punctuation to mark the end Editing and improving sentences There is also a themed booklet included with all the writing tasks for the week linked to thunder storms. This has been used to support a writing unit for a setting description that involves a storm but can also be used as a general resource. Over time, more booklets will continue to be added that work on different skills alongside the ones previously mentioned.
Storm Setting Description Writing Unit
krisgreg30krisgreg30

Storm Setting Description Writing Unit

(0)
A fully planned and resourced writing unit working on creating a setting description based on a storm with thunder and lightning. Included in the resource is: Lesson PowerPoints Activity resources Fronted adverbial word bank Word bank linked to storms Drafting sheet adapted from Single Paragraph Outline Example texts Starter activities for the first five lessons with answers included A writing skills booklet that links to storms that can be used separately elsewhere to support writing in the unit Notes for the planning and the aims of the lesson With drafting and redrafting, as well as then publishing a final piece, there should be enough lessons for between 8 and 10 lessons. The first few lessons work on developing ideas and sentence construction ahead of the writing process with a lesson on developing vocabulary ideas, unpicking example texts, working on fronted adverbials and redrafting sentences forming the first four lessons. Where activities are used, these sentences also link purposefully to writing about storms to develop understanding further. This then leads into drafting and redrafting, including teacher modelling and providing feedback based on how pupils write, with the previous activities and word banks still being available to support during the writing process. Due to copyright, you will need to source an image to base the writing on - this needs to be a picture of a lightning storm and would preferably be set over a water scene - this is however reflected in the price and all resources uploaded are in PowerPoint format so they can be edited as required, including the lesson PowerPoints that include notes for teaching and where to add your own image
Mummification Instructions Writing Unit
krisgreg30krisgreg30

Mummification Instructions Writing Unit

(0)
A fully planned and resourced writing unit working on creating a set of instructions for mummification. Included in the resource is: Lesson PowerPoints Lesson activities including a sequencing task and a editing task Fronted adverbials and imperative verbs word mat Instructions knowledge organiser Model text With drafting and redrafting, as well as then publishing a final piece, there should be enough lessons for between 6 and 8 lessons. The ‘lessons’ as they appear on the PowerPoint may take more than one ‘lesson’ and form sequences of learning. The first step is looking at the features of instructions, including a focus on the knowledge organiser before then identifying these in the model text. The second sequence then moves on to being able to sequence the steps of mummification when given a set of instructions that can then be improved as part of a challenge. This moves on to then taking a simple set of instructions and improving them, with teacher modelling and guided practice before completing the activity. This then leads into drafting and redrafting, including teacher modelling and providing feedback based on how pupils write, with the previous activities and word banks still being available to support during the writing process.
