A fully resourced unit of work for a Year 4 unit on Addition and Subtraction that provides 20 lessons. Included in the 20 lesson sequence is: Lesson 1, 2 and 3 - Add and subtract using place value (1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s) Lesson 4 and 5- Add two 4-digit numbers (no carrying) Lesson 6 and 7 - Add two 4-digit numbers (1 carry) Lesson 8, 9 and 10 -Add two 4-digit numbers (multiple carrying) Lesson 11 and 12 - Subtract using two 4-digit numbers (no exchanging) Lesson 13 and 14 - Subtract using two 4-digit numbers (1 exchange) Lesson 15, 16 and 17 - Subtract using two 4-digit numbers (multiple exchanging) Lesson 18, 19 and 20 - Selecting most appropriate strategies for addition and subtraction Most lessons come in double lessons bar the two triple lessons where there is an introductory lesson followed by a double lesson. Each double lesson includes a double lesson PowerPoint that includes an arithmetic starter for every lesson, key vocabulary, modelling, discussion and practice before moving onto an independent activity and challenge tasks that stretch over the two lessons. Answer sheets are included for all independent activities and challenge tasks. The single lesson at the start of triple lessons has all the same features but only has a single lesson PowerPoint.

25 different activities linked to the 8x table that give the opportunity to work on and improve understanding of the 8x table facts in different ways. This includes activities that range from list questions that help show commutativity, inverse and multiples of 10, 0.1 etc., filling in tables that require children to make links between different facts, completing sequences that link to the ability to count in 8s and using written multiplication and division using facts from the 8x table. Additionally, there are tasks linked to fractions in finding fractions of amounts, multiplying and dividing fractions by whole numbers and multiplying a fraction by a fraction.
