A complete writing unit for teaching explanation texts through writing one about the digestive system. It has been created with lower KS2 in mind but is easily adaptable. Each ‘lesson’ is broken into chunks of learning rather than directly being a one hour lesson. A lesson that focuses on natural hazards, particularly in being able to identify the differences between climatic and tectonic hazards. The lesson works well as an introductory lesson in teaching pupils about different natural hazards and understanding why these occur. There is everything needed to be able to deliver the lesson including the lesson PowerPoint, starter activity, three activities and support sheets. The lesson starts with a starter focusing on the equator and tropics to prompt understanding of climate and weather conditions. This then moves on to identifying key vocabulary and introducing the idea of natural hazards. Activity One then requires pupils to sort examples of natural hazards into climatic and tectonic. There is a cut and stick version of this with images or a separate version using written text for those looking to save on time and printing. This then moves on to the second activity focusing on being able to identify similarities and differences between climatic and tectonic hazards. This is presented as a Venn diagram with a support sheet to help with ideas. However, there is also an alternative version of the activity should teachers wish to use it, with a reduced outcome through limited boxes available. This is then followed up by more discussion and a review task to check understanding at the end of the lesson. Additionally, a support sheet is provided with the key vocabulary, information and images from the PowerPoint all provided on one page for pupils to refer back to.

A fully resourced lesson focusing on numbers up to 1,000,000, based on the Year 6 WRM objective as part of the place value unit. Included is a lesson PowerPoint which includes a starter, key vocabulary and opportunities for modelling, discussion and guided practice. There are notes included to point out on some of the slides what the focus of the question is and potential misconception it is trying to address. This is followed by an independent activity that links to the lesson, giving children the opportunity to apply their learning, including identifying the value of numbers, identifying the value of digits and being able to partition numbers. This is followed up with four problem solving and reasoning style questions to deepen understanding, with answers included for all. For children who need additional support or scaffolding, there are also additional practice sheets to begin with that build up to trying to get children all working on the same main activity. These include numbers to 100,000, to 10,000 and to 1,000 with a similar nature across the sheets to support pupils in being able to get to the main activity. There are also place value grids included to support pupils.

Attached are moderation grids for the interim statements (recently released 2016-2017) for Writing, Science and Maths. This includes working below and greater depth for writing and can be used as a simple tick box exercise. Whilst they include many potential tick boxes, these are in no way how many pieces of evidence you require.

An activity made for the start of the new school year. This activity acts as an ice breaker, giving children the chance to talk to one another and get to know each other more. Included are 25 statements that children have to find someone else to match to. Some statements are more common events e.g. made a snowman whilst some are more specific e.g. been to France. At the end, it can then be used as a class discussion to see who has done what and also pick out more details for certain events.

A set of worksheets that were made for a Year 5 nouns lesson with three differentiated activities to complete. They worked well in my lesson so thought I would share them in case anyone else found them useful.

Attached is a version of a potential calculation policy that people can use for ideas to help in developing their own. Each year group is broken down in to the 4 operations, identifying mental and written methods and linking to other strands in the curriculum. Written methods are kept to a minimum to ensure children become 'experts' in that method and to ensure consistency throughout teaching.

A lesson that focuses on comparing and contrasting physical and human geographical features between Canada and Spain. Each slide has a map of Spain and of Canada for a particular feature with the class then spending time noting down similarities and differences. These can then be discussed as a class before moving on to the next slide.
