The pages could be presented with a simplified telling. If the CD is available, it is always useful to hear the story read exactly the same lots of times and the pages could accompany this. The song prompt cards for one of the CD songs lists the 'wow words' - listen and find the card, or use the card to sing the song with the instrumental version. The mind-map is a prompt for children to retell the story in their own way.

Resource to draw attention to a variety of verbs which can stand for ‘said’. Practise picking out the actual words spoken to write in a speech bubble. Mark up speech marks and missing punctuation correctly on the sentences by pictures. Illustrated with ClipArt. A fairy tale retold at three levels: simple plus symbol-support of Widgit/PCS symbols, early reading with illustrations, longer version to read aloud with many opportunities for spoken language tasks. Additional activities: colouring, read / match caption to picture and sequence.

Symbols (c) Widgit Software 2010. Print the NOTES as a sheet for reference. There are several suggestions, including how to use the resource with a mixed ability group with readers and non-readers. Print the MAKE QUESTIONS AND STATEMENTS on card. The little cards will be more manageable if you use full size A4, but they are legible if you print 2-up. Basically it is an activity requiring rearrangement of word cards to make questions or statements but there are other ideas in the guide too.
