Here are 10 colour sheets showing pictures and there is space for children to write 7 things they see in each of the pictures. Themes include Christmas, under the sea, colour, weather, stationery, tools and nature. Children may like to work in pairs which will encourage speaking and listening. Children could write a word or sentence depending on their writing skills. Laminate the pictures and numbered lists and add these to your writing table/area for use with dry markers.

A great little game for EYFS and KS1 for speaking and listening and extending vocabulary and understanding. Here are 48 discussion cards to encourage children to think and talk about what they see. There are 4 cards to a page which can be cut out and laminated if you want to reuse them. There is also a sheet showing all the 48 pictures. Ideas for activities: Show the children the full sheet of 48 pictures and ask them to identify pictures showing opposites e.g. number 33 - open and closed bin, 48 - empty and full Christmas stocking and 44 - sick or well. Children work in pairs with a set of cards to discuss. Pairs or small groups could then share their findings with the class e.g. 31 - both baskets are the same but one is full and one is empty or 24 - both animals are bears, one is large and one is small. Did any other children find a card with a similar theme? Children could write the number of the card they are discussing and then one similarity and one difference they find. Cards can be sorted into different types of opposites e.g. cards 18, 29 and 31 are all Full and Empty themed. Children can make up their own cards with drawings or pasted pictures to show they understand the concepts. This resource is also good for those learning English or other languages, children are encouraged to speak in sentences.

This is a fun game for children at KS1. Here, the school staff get up to silly things and the idea is to work out who does what, where, when, why and how. Children choose a card from each of the 6 sets: Who? e.g. Miss Cookwell and Miss Bookworm Where? e.g., the Kitchen or the Nursery What? e.g. changed the clock to home time or put paint on the walls and floors Why? e.g. it was an accident or I thought it would be funny When? e.g. during afternoon play or before the teachers meeting How? e.g. the PE teacher helped or I wore a disguise These are colour coded.
