10 colouring sheets for young children. Each of the pages shows the colour version of the ice cream or ice cream van and a black and white picture for the children to colour in. They can colour the picture so it matches or make it their own.

This is a lesson I used based on observing fruits, especially lemons with the children. Links to patterns in nature, fruits, plants, colour and pattern. Sheet 1 gives 8 examples of how 1 ‘slice of fruit’ can be coloured in different ways. Sheet 2 is black and white showing the 8 ‘slices’. Sheet 3 shows 2 large ‘slices’. This activity can be linked to seasons, with children using e.g.Autumn colours or cold colours for winter.

10 flashcards of each of the colours: yellow, blue, red and green. Cards show pictures of objects, colour splats and colour words. Children can match the colours, or duplicate and they can also match picture to picture. Children can make sets of each colour.

6 sets of clothing in 6 different colours. Each page has 6 cards to cut out - 1 colour per page. Children can make sets in different ways e.g. all the blue or brown or all the mittens, socks, hats etc. Some of the colours may be slightly different shades and children find the best match.

These worksheets that can be used alone or alongside colour / shape sorting practical activities. There are 3 worksheets where children can colour in the black and white buttons to make them the same as the colour buttons shown. They can go on to count how many buttons of each colour, size or / and pattern. There are 2 worksheets where all the buttons are black and white and children can colour these by sorting or using their own choices of colour. 4 colour sheets showing 5 rows of clothing or accessories. Each row has 7 items e.g. 7 pairs of socks or 7 dresses. The idea is that the child finds which 2 are the same on each row. They can talk about similarities and differences or who wears which clothing and in what seasons. Use as 4 boards which you could laminate. Or, cut out individual cards which can then be sorted and the matching pairs of items located. Enlarge or keep as handy small picture cards.

Copy, cut and laminate the cards to play Go Fish where children traditionally have 5 cards each and select cards from a pile in turn. The aim is to make pairs. 2 colour pictures related to the outdoors for children to observe carefully. They can count the objects they see and write the numbers e.g. garden gnomes, wheelbarrows and frogs.

A cross curricular activity set for young children, where they use their observation , colouring, matching, speaking and listening and handwriting skills. There are 12 colour cards with matching black and white ones. Each card shows a pair e.g. a bear and a bat/ a snail and a worm / a snake and a butterfly. Encourage children to speak in sentences to describe what they see. Children can colour in the black and white cards and match / make them the same as the colour ones. This resource links to pattern, colour and shape as well as topics on clothing. There are 6 examples of pairs of shoes /trainers that show the soles and the patterns on these. Children can talk about the colours, shapes and patterns. They can then look at a selection of shoes /trainers examining their soles /patterns. They could consider why certain shoes may have particular patterns. Children could bring to school a pair of shoes from home that show interesting patterns. They can draw the patterns and/or make up patterns of their own. Sheet 1 of the resource shows black and white pairs of trainers. These can be photocopied for children to colour or paint.

A counting and ordering activity for children learning their numbers up to 15. Sheet 1 shows the colour shirts to 15. Children can trace the numbers, cut and order the shirts. Sheet 2 is the same as sheet 1 but in black and white. Sheet 3 is a template of shirts that children can use to write their own numbers and /or design their own shirts.
