Here is a fun activity using 6 coloured blocks which children cut out from the sheet provided. Each block has a different word/s - beside, in between, above, under, below, next to. Children are given the tasks of a. recreate the patterns in the 3 patterns given b. create patterns of their own ensuring that the words make sense e.g. under must be under at least one other brick. You could make this a competitive game where children work in pairs or groups and see how many different combinations they can come up with. Extend / differentiate using less blocks or using lego or other blocks for practical activities.
