Six Simple Machines Sorting Activity
Did you know that a screwdriver is an example of a wheel and axle or that a broom is a third class lever? This sort is a quick and easy hands-on way to have your students learn about real-life examples of the six types of simple machines. It can be used in so many ways! Laminate the large pictures to use as a center or station activity or use the one-page sheet and small pictures for assignments, assessments, or interactive notebooks. Differentiate by changing the amount and which pictures students use. Increase the difficulty by having students sort levers and/or pulleys into their three classes. UV Light Hands-on Extension Activity
Looking for an activity to extend student learning of light waves? This lesson plan has students design an investigation to determine how to prevent ultraviolet light from reaching UV beads. Students will use the Science and Engineering Practices along with the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) format for their investigation. It is the perfect resource for the “Extend” portion of 5E lessons, for GATE students, or as an at-home activity. Both color and print-friendly student pages are included. This activity requires the use of color-changing ultraviolet beads which are readily available in many stores.
