Introduction to the the Sacraments
This lesson serves as an introduction to the 7 sacraments of the Catholic church. It encourages students to reflect on the idea of ‘outward expressions of inward grace’ through a range of activities.
This lesson links to the new RS GCSE syllabus and includes some differentiated resources.

Evil and suffering assessment
This is an assessment lesson used at the end of a scheme of work on evil and suffering. It asks students to engage in a silent debate before drawing on the points made to complete a written assessment.
Abortion case study cards
This activity is aimed at encouraging students to reflect on the various contributing factors that may lead to a decision to abort a pregnancy. There are four cases studies for students to consider. This activity is useful as a springboard for discussion.
What is a Myth
This lesson looks at the story of Echo and Narcissus and asks students to reflect on the meaning and purpose of the story.
Christianity and racial harmony
This lesson looks at Christian teachings on racial harmony firstly through the parable of the Good Samaritan and later through a collection of images that can be related to religion and racial tensions across the globe.
The nature of belief
This lesson explores the way in which our place in the world and social context influences what we believe truth to be. It uses a range of activities that encourage students to reflect on what they perceive to be fact or fiction and exploring where these ideas come from.
Shirk and Tawhid
This lesson focus’ on the concepts of Tawhid and shirk in the Islamic religious and explores how these prnciples are expressed through art.
New religious movements - Brainwashing
This lesson looks at the controversial idea of 'brainwashing' within new religious movements. It encourages students to reflect on the methods used to 'recruit' new followers and consider whether or no they are problematic. If prepared well in advance the lesson can also be used to demonstrate how easy it is to influence peoples thinking - props are necessary for this.
Heaven's gate
This lesson is based around a documentary on the New Religious Movement Heaven's gate. Students watch the documentary and complete a worksheet. This information is then used to complete a leveled piece of work (the success criteria and writing frame is included).
Introduction to Christian pilgrimage
This lesson provides an introduction to the idea of pilgrimage within the Christian tradition. It urges students to reflect on the meaning and purpose of spiritual journeys with the help of a video clip and a range of activities.

This lesson looks at the Branch Divianians and the events at Waco.
Pilgrimage to Israel
This lesson looks at the spiritual value of a pilgrimage made to Israel from a Christian perspective. Using a carousel activity students visit six different key locations in the Holy land and reflect on their biblical significance and how visiting such places may help a Christian feel closer to God.

Christmas and its commercialization
This lesson begins by looking at some of the traditional symbolism used at Christmas time to represent the nativity. This task gauges how informed students are about the Christian aspects of the festival before moving to reflect on the issue of commercialization.
Pilgrimage mini assessment lesson
This lesson brings together previous study on pilgrimage (Intro, Holy Land and Lourdes and homework). Using the requirements of the new edexcel exam guidelines students create an information booklet on their chosen site of pilgrimage.
The nativity
This lesson looks at the nativity.
It begins with an annotation task and moves onto to look at the problem of prophecy.
Students need to have some knowledge of the nativity for his lesson to be successful.

This lesson first looks at the practical and emotional preparations that are involved in the advent period before considering the theological significance in relation to the fall and Jesus’ birth.
Bundle
Evil and Suffering
This bundle of lessons includes the power points for a whole scheme of work on evil and suffering. The lessons range from an introduction to the idea of evil, through to an exploration of the nature of God, responses to the problem of evil, Buddhist perspectives and an assessment task. These lessons are interactive and include many tasks that encourage students to develop their oral/discussion skills. These lessons can be used at KS3 or 4 and strongly support the the Edexcel GCSE syllabus.
