Great activity for upper Key Stage 2 (or more able Y3/4) as a fun way to deepen knowledge of x tables. Includes coded versions of four of the multiplication tables (4,5,6 and 9x). Children have to use their knowledge of all of the times tables to crack the code! [Examples of 'clues' to look for: e.g. 5x table - last digit always ends in one of two letters - i.e. 0 or 5. Always look for answers that remain the same as the question - must be multiplying by 1. Check for one or two digits in the answers as a clue to what the x table might be. Identify zero by finding 10 x ? = ?0. Etc.] Solutions provided.

A bundle of resources for teaching a short unit on poetry using similes and metaphors. There is a one-week plan although to be honest you could easily stretch it to two weeks as the children always produce good work with these poems. Pack includes 1 week lesson plan, PPT presentation on similes, various classic and modern poems that include similes and/or metaphors and a few format sheets for scaffolding children's poems. Also includes RIC reading questions linked to another metaphor poem for whole-class reading session.
A humorous and fully editable class assembly play script illustrating that there really are two sides to every story. Drama sketches include new insights into the most well-known traditional tales - Goldilocks, Jack and the Beanstalk and the Three Billy Goats Gruff etc., and how these can be viewed from a different perspective. Good opportunities for drama. Written for a Y5 class but can be adapted. Fun to perform and got a fabulous reception from the audience!
I hope you enjoy this resource and that it saves you some time and stress. If so, please take a moment to leave me a good review. Thank you!
A very much simplified summary of the plot of the famous book by CS Lewis, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe told through 21 animated PPT slides. For use with lower KS2 children either during ICT work or to support English unit, for RIC questions, etc.
If you like this resource, please take a moment to give it a 5-star review. Thank you!
Powerpoint presentation with slides including Which bed would you rather sleep in? Which pet would you rather have? Where would you rather live? etc. To be used for stimulating discussion and reasoning; for example, philosophy sessions, P4C, circle time, RIC reading stimulus etc or could easily be adapted for use in English lessons for description and so on.
Collection of 17 documents containing many ideas for mental maths investigations which may look simple at first glance but which will actually involve some deep thinking from even the brightest sparks in KS2! Great for lesson starters, homework challenges or extension tasks; also excellent for modelling strategies e.g. logical thinking and systematic recording approaches. Can easily be further adapted or extended i.e. ask children to devise similar styles of question!
An A4 scaffold sheet for children to format an information text including lines on which to write and space for a title, two paragraphs, a picture, caption and 'Did you know?' fact circle. Useful for LAPs, SEN or just children in Lower KS2 who may need support with formatting.
One sheet for children to write on with a pictorial list of all the Halloween items they are looking for - witch, cat, skeleton, etc. They need to find the pictures (which you'll have hidden around the hall or outside area, etc.) and write down the number (shown in red on the hidden picture) next to the item on their list. The second document contains all the pictures themselves (with the red numbers on), A4 size for sticking up somewhere (hard or easy-to-find places) and the third gives all of the answers for checking they've found them all.
A long list of various ideas for mental and oral maths sessions aimed at providing easily differentiated levels of challenge. Little or no preparation or resources required.
This is a fantastic collection of 50 Maths activities that can be used as lesson starters, plenaries or fun one-off activities. Many could be extended as the basis for a full lesson, and most could be revisited as they are or adapted with very little effort to provide new challenges. This means a huge number of your Maths starters throughout the year are already taken care of!
I have been a maths coordinator for several years and have a passion for finding/collecting/inventing easily implemented maths activities that really extend children's understanding.
Challenges include number, length, weight, time, shape and many problem-solving tasks.
Each slide includes notes for the teacher; these may explain the task, provide an answer to more challenging problems, or suggest easy ways to reduce or extend the level of challenge to suit more/less able mathematicians.
With the slides you are good to go; although many of them could be further developed by using resources such as coins, dice etc., they are ready to use as they are with only whiteboards or jotters being needed for the children to write down answers on.
This is a collection of quality resources that have taken me literally years to collect and days to put together here in this format. If you like it, please take the time to give me a 5-star review. Thank you!
A collection of 8 RIC reading activities designed for use with the whole class, but could be used with a group. Each slide uses a different stimulus, including photograph, illustration, poster, song, video, and includes questions for each of the elements of RIC; retrieve/interpret/choice. Intended to be thought-provoking and to stimulate discussion, facilitated by the teacher. For KS2 but could also be used with lower KS3.
Includes questions based around two Pixar short films, a page from the Mysteries of Harris Burdick (Chris van Allsburg), a poster on Internet safety, a photograph on flooding in San Jose, Something Inside So Strong by Labi Siffre, Please Mrs Butler poem by Allan Ahlberg, and a thought-provoking Facebook illustration by Pawel Kuczynski.
I hope you find these RIC resources both enjoyable and time-saving. If so, please spare a few seconds to leave me a positive review. Thank you!
A Victorian picture hunt - children have to find 10 pictures which you can hide around the classroom/hall/playground etc. Can be used with KS2 and KS1, including non-readers/writers, as children only need to look for matching pictures and note down the number in the appropriate box. However, it’s a good stimulus for discussion of the Victorian items listed, either at the start/end of the topic or simply as a fun activity/end of term game etc. Items include pictures of Queen Victoria, penny farthing, factory, chimney sweep, mangle, camera etc.
This is a brief summary of key points in the life of Queen Elizabeth II (upto 2018) written as a 2-sided text and as a simplified one-sided text for less able pupils to read, accompanied by 3 sets of questions based around one of the two texts for use with different ability groups. Aimed at Y4/5/6 but could be used or easily adapted for older or younger children.
Thanks for taking the time to look - if you appreciate the resource, please take a few moments to leave a review - thank you :)

For KS2 creative writing lessons.
An illustrated PowerPoint presentation of the classic TS Eliot poem Macavity: The Mystery Cat to show as a presentation lesson starter e.g. for RIC reading sessions, comprehension and discussion etc. Nice and clear to read together as a class, appealing illustrations to engage children.

Contains three fantastic poems to use with KS2 children: Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll, Warning by Jenny Joseph and Warning by Carl Sandburg. Each one includes a list of activities that children can do based on the poems, all in pairs or small groups. These may be used as a whole class activity or e.g. as an extension task for children with a few spare minutes; children may complete the activities exhaustively or pick one or two ideas they fancy doing.
Gets children to engage with these three fantastic poems on a deeper level, as well as helping with the Imitation - Innovation - Invention process.
Designed with KS2 in mind, ideally Y4 and above, but could also be useful for lower KS3.
